OMAX® Develops New Motor Solution for Abrasive Waterjet Control
Kent, Washington, August 10, 2009 - OMAX has announced the release of the patent pending Brushless Vector Drive, a system that provides positioning control that is smoother and more precise than either servo motors or step motors. Engineered from the ground up to support OMAX's extensive line of abrasive waterjet machines, the new drive uses a novel control system to accurately manage the vector magnetic field.
The Brushless Vector Drive is a drive for permanent magnet synchronous motors developed to eliminate complications that machine builders frequently have with servo motors. It eliminates the elaborate tuning frequently required to match servo motor controls to specific machines. The product drives a 50-pole motor providing smooth precise motion control.
The new drive is self-learning, which allows it to make subtle, automatic corrections to retain optimal performance. Precision linear scales provide close-loop servo control and have a 1-micron resolution to ensure precise motion.
