Delta Adds Two New Models To Its Existing Line-up of Lathes
JUNE 20, 2002 - NEW YORK CITY, NY - Delta Machinery announced today the introduction of two new lathes - the models 46-746 (16" variable speed steel bed wood lathe) and 46-715 (14" variable speed cast iron lathe) - during a press conference at the Hotel InterContinental in New York City. Product Manager Kendall Smith said, "Delta Machinery is refining the art of wood-turning through the introduction of improved features and added stability. Our new lathes clearly offer a smoother operation which equates to less room for error when turning with expensive woods." Like no other competitive lathe on the market, the model 46-746 was engineered using structural steel 20 times torsionally stiffer than cast-iron beds to achieve the smoothest operation possible. Featuring a two-horsepower (230 volt) variable frequency drive motor and controller, the model 46-746 touts a state-of-the art Baldor(TM) variable speed frequency electronic controller to offer three speed ranges (0-1100, 0-2200, and 0-3200 rpm). Moreover, Delta Machinery has positioned the lathe's controls close to the user for convenient adjustments and easy on/off operation. Its poly-V belt provides ample power (and torque) for all types of wood-turning applications. There are occasions when end-users wish to increase the stability of their lathe while turning large workpieces. The model 46-746 makes this task simple thanks to an open foot design that accepts 4 x 4 timbers for an expanded footprint. Another stability-enhancing feature is the ability to fill the hollow legs, and bed, with concrete and/or another type of ballast to virtually eliminate deflection during use. The model 46-746's spindle lock offers a 24-division indexer for ornamental work such as flutes and reeds. Its cast iron head stock and 12" tool rest travels smoothly along the entire length of the oversized bedways to accommodate any challenging wood-turning project. Using 1-1/4" - 8 spindle threads, the model 46-746 has a spindle thru hole of 9/16". Using a #2MT tailstock taper, it has a tail stock thru hole of 3/8" with a tail stock spindle travel of 4". The model 46-746 comes complete with the basic machine; a 1-1/2 HP, 230 Volt motor; drive center; live center; 4" locking face plate; 12" tool rest and base; knockout bar; wrenches; and instruction manual. Currently available on the market, the unit is expected to sell for approximately $2,000. Delta's second lathe introduction, the model 46-715, is a 14" cast iron lathe featuring a ¾HP, 15-amp motor. Offering a variable speed range between 500 and 2,500 rpm, this model touts a 6" face plate with spur center and 1" 8 spindle. With a 40" distance between centers, this unit has a swing-over-bed capacity of 14" and a swing over tool rest capacity of 10-1/8". Using 1"- 8 RH spindle threads, the model 45-715 has a headstock thru hole of .433". With a #2 Morse tailstock taper, this unit has a tailstock thru hole of .374" with a tailstock ram travel of 3". Like the 16" steel bed lathe, the model 46-715's spindle lock offers a 24-division indexer for ornamental work such as flutes and reeds. The model 46-715 comes complete with the basic machine; a ¾HP, 15-amp (60 Hz) induction motor; 12" cast iron offset tool rest; 6" face plate with spur center and 1" 8 spindle; steel stand; and owner's manual.
