Variable Optical Attenuator Features Low Insertion Loss

Toronto, Canada - GAO Fiber Optics (www.GAOFiberOptics.com) has rolled out an innovative variable optical attenuator which is used as a passive component to reduce the optical power of signals propagating through optical fiber. The attenuator is an invaluable testing instrument intended for on-line testing and maintenance of fiber optic systems as well as digital communication system devices such as PHD or SDH or systems using analog modulation such as CATV.

This rugged variable optical attenuator, model A0610001, operates at the wavelength range of 1260nm to 1650nm and displays attenuation values in either dB or dBm. Calibrated wavelengths including 1310, 1490, 1550, and 1625nm are also available. It regulates power with superior linearity, high accuracy and low insertion loss; it adjusts the amplitude of an optical signal to the desired level without distorting its waveform. The device utilizes a neutral density filter to achieve attenuation which is adjustable through the rotating dial on the keypad. GAO Fiber optics' intelligent attenuator has an auto-off function as well as the ability to auto restore the attenuating value and steps the next time it is powered on. It supports a long operating time of about forty hours when it is fully charged.
