VPX Carrier Cards for PMC/XMC Modules feature PCIe interface.

Press Release Summary:

Interfacing PMC or XMC module to VPX system, VPX4820 and VPX4821 feature 2 PMC or XMC slots with support for front or real panel I/O and deliver 25 W to each site. These 6U cards allow connection to OpenVPX™ via Expansion plane (VPX4820) or data plane (VPX4821). Power and interface bus signals are routed to plug-in mezzanine module via VPX card slot connector. While XMC site uses 8-lane PCIe bus Gen 2 interface, PMC site uses 32/64-bit, 33/66/133MHz PLX technology with PCIe to PCI-X bridge.

New 6U VPX Carrier Cards for PMC or XMC Modules Feature a High-Speed PCI Express Interface

Acromag’s new VPX boards route power and bus signals to a plug-in XMC or PMC mezzanine module with an 8-lane PCIe interface to enable a wide variety of I/O processing and FPGA computing options.

Wixom, MI:  Acromag expands their OpenVPX™ carrier card selection with the addition of two new models that provide a simple and cost-effective solution for interfacing a PMC or XMC module to a VPX computer system. The VPX4820 and VPX4821 features two PMC or XMC slots with support for front or real panel I/O and delivers 25W of power to each site. Connect to the OpenVPX via the Expansion plane using model VPX4820 or use model VPX4821 to connect to the OpenVPX via the Data plane. These carrier cards route power and interface bus signals to a plug-in mezzanine module through the VPX card slot connector. The XMC site uses 8-lane PCIe bus Gen 2 interface enables rapid data throughput. The PMC site uses 32/64-bit, 33/66/133MHz PLX technology with a PCIe to PCI-X bridge. By inserting PMC or XMC industrial I/O and configurable FPGA modules from Acromag or other vendors on the carrier, developers can now leverage hundreds of available function modules currently unavailable in a VPX platform. Pricing starts at $2495 for an air-cooled version with a 0 to 70°C range. Conduction-cooled and REDI models are also available.

Designed and manufactured in the USA these carriers are ideal for high-performance industrial, defense, scientific research, and telephony systems requiring high-speed I/O. “A direct PCIe connection over the VPX backplane allows host processors access to a high-performance, low latency interconnect to the XMC and PMC modules on the carrier card. This carrier card provides great flexibility to system integrators to easily expand their OpenVPX-based systems,” states Joseph Primeau, Acromag’s sales and marketing director. The VPX4820 and VPX4821 support any standard IEEE-1386.1 module for great flexibility to address I/O signal processing tasks. Acromag offers dozens of compatible PMC modules to perform A/D, D/A, digital I/O, and serial communication functions. Re-configurable FPGA modules are also available in a PMC or XMC format with multi-lane serial interconnects for high-performance algorithm acceleration and adaptive computing applications.

The carrier card conforms to VPX VITA 46.0, 46.4 and 46.9 specifications and optionally VITA 48 for Ruggedized Enhanced Design Implementation (REDI). It is also compatible with a number of VITA 65 OpenVPX module/slot profiles. 64 I/O lines (P14, VITA 46.9) are supported via the P2 VPX connector. Front and rear-panel I/O access can be accommodated.
