Demonstration at Fadal Machining Centers WESTEC Booth # 3432

CHATSWORTH, CALIF-JANUARY 11, 2006-Fadal Machining Centers today announced the 34,000-pound, cast iron, integral box way VMC 6535 with the GE Series18i MB5 CNC as the newest member of its Performance Series VMCs. The VMC 6535 removes high volumes of material from large parts with a short cycle time. The GE Series18i MB5 CNC combines a robust processor with simultaneous five-axis capability. Targeted at steel mold bases and aluminum wing spars, the VMC 6535 is equally well suited for Tier 2 and 3 automotive parts suppliers.

The GE Series18i MB5 CNC has a long list of standard features focused on helping reduce part program cycle times; AI Contour Control, Manual Guide I, DNC with Memory Card. Options include Mold 3 and Mold 5 packages based on processing power requirements.

Manual Guide i software, which provides an easy-to-understand and straightforward operator interface, interactive screens and powerful machining functions. With a few keystrokes, it is possible to input, test and execute a program. A Machine Condition Selection Function provides R1-10 value selections for velocity and accuracy, which allows the user to balance velocity and accuracy based on the tool path.

The VMC 6535 delivers a high-performance 24/7 duty cycle with cutting rates up to 400 IPM and rapid travel rates up to 900-IPM. Powerful features include a standard 40 taper 30-HP spindle with 10,000-RPM, Air/Oil lubrication and 1:2 / 2:1 two-speed mechanical Hi/Lo. Additionally, two powerful spindle system options are available, including a 50-taper, 45-HP, 7,500-RPM spindle with Air/Oil lubrication and 1:1 single speed Wye/Delta Hi/Lo; and a 40-taper, 22.5-HP, 15,000-RPM spindle with Air/Oil lubrication and 1:2 single speed mechanical Hi/Lo.

Integral cast iron box ways on all three axes and a four-box bed provide rigidity and superior vibration damping. These design properties have been engineered into the large "C" frame for cutting precision parts. Integral box ways allow 24/7 heavy-cutting operations with either the 40 or 50 taper spindle. Double-anchored, extra-large 63 mm ball screws deliver precise positioning for high-accuracy machining of massive parts. Additionally, heavy-duty construction and 34,000 lbs. weight ensures stability, rigidity and long life in a large work envelope - 65" x 35" x 34" XYZ travels (31" Z travel on 50 taper) and 69.5" x 35" table.

The VMC 6535 features a chip conveyor system, with optional wash-down utilizing coolant jets that push chips from the back to the front, where they fall into the chip conveyor. The conveyor moves the chips out of the VMC and up to the height of a 55-gallon drum. Collection in a large bin reduces the amount of time spent emptying chip containers and facilitates unattended operation.

With Fadal's unique COOL Power thermal stability system, the VMC 6535 maintains a constant temperature on positioning elements, which minimizes thermal growth and repeatability problems. By circulating a high-performance heat transfer agent through the spindle nose, around the spindle cartridge and headstock and through the center of the gun-drilled ball screws, thermal expansion is reduced and consistent positioning accuracy and repeatability is ensured.

The temperature of the liquid heat transfer agent is monitored and chilled as required, maintaining the temperature of positioning components within ± 1.0 degree of the VMC's ambient temperature. Despite ambient temperature variation, parts are machined with consistent accuracy. The system is closed-loop, isolating the heat transfer agent from chips and other contaminants.

ABOUT FADAL MACHINING CENTERS:

Fadal manufactures three VMC product lines (Performance Series, Standard Series, Remanufactured Series), and a full line of rotary tables and pallet shuttle systems. Fadal VMCs are available with a 14" to 35" Y-axis and 20" to 80" X-axis. Machines with less than 16" Y-axis feature linear guides and with 16" and higher feature box ways. These machines are utilized for cutting a broad range of materials, such as steel, titanium, aluminum, plastics and wood. Extensive training and support programs are offered by Fadal, which include technical support teams and a global network of distributors trained to deliver best-in-class after-sales support.

Today the Fadal brand name has worldwide recognition with more than 35,000 Fadal VMCs proving their value in factories around the globe. Fadal trains and works with distributors in most major industrial countries. Fadal is the first machine tool builder to offer such standard features as a 10,000-RPM spindle, an upgradeable CNC control and a thermal stability system for positioning elements (COOL Power).
