Harris Corporation Debuts Platinum VHF Transmitters in North America

New Transmitters Support Multimedia Transmission for Global TV and Radio Broadcast Standards

LAS VEGAS (NAB Show, Booth N2502) - Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces the North American debut of its Platinum Series® of VHF solid-state transmitters for global broadcast standards, delivering the best possible efficiency for today's ATSC multimedia broadcaster in the VHF III band.

Platinum(TM) VHF transmitters are available in two product groups: Platinum VLX liquid-cooled models for higher-power VHF transmissions up to 28.2 kW; and Platinum VAX air-cooled models for power levels between 40 W and 10 kW. Both models incorporate Harris® PowerSmart® technology to provide outstanding power density, a compact footprint and low-energy usage for a truly green and cost-efficient transmission platform.

Though capable of transmission in multiple global digital standards including DAB/DMB, DVB-T/H and ISDB-T/ISDB-Tb and FLO(TM), the Platinum VHF range gives ATSC VHF broadcasters in the United States a robust transmission platform to take full advantage of their FCC-allotted spectrum.

"The issue of spectrum reclamation by the U.S. government on behalf of the wireless broadband industry has captured headlines both inside and outside of our industry," said Phil Argyris, vice president of transmission systems, Harris Broadcast Communications. "Harris is committed to helping broadcasters best utilize their spectrum with transmission solutions capable of delivering over-the-air, multimedia broadcasts including HDTV, multichannel DTV and ATSC Mobile DTV services."

Globally, Platinum VHF transmitters also are capable of supporting digital radio and Mobile TV transmissions for DAB/DMB broadcasters - the target market for earliest delivery of the transmitters. The transmitters also provide a clear analog-to-digital upgrade path for global broadcast TV standards.

Both Platinum VHF models incorporate software-definable Harris Apex M2X(TM) exciter technology for switching between multiple modulation schemes, and to provide the best possible signal integrity using Harris RTAC(TM) (real-time adaptive correction) technology. Both models also provide a clear upgrade path from analog to digital - ideal for low-power U.S. broadcasters and any Latin American broadcasters transmitting in analog today.

Harris also is exhibiting its range of Maxiva® UHF solid-state liquid-cooled (ULX) and air-cooled (UAX) transmitters at the NAB Show, both of which incorporate the PowerSmart architecture and Apex M2X exciter technology.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE(TM) solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
