March 21, 2013 - Supplied in SOT-23-5L package, APE2902 can operate from positive input voltage between start-up voltage and VOUT and convert it to higher output voltage, adjustable in 0.1 V steps from 2.5–5 V with ±5% accuracy. Quiescent supply current of 22 µA typ and efficiency of 87% (typ) at VOUT = 5 V help maximize battery life. Along with max shutdown current lower than 1 µA and output current up to 100 mA, converter offers internally limited peak inductor current and internal soft-start.

Very Low Power VFM Step-Up DC/DC Converter from Advanced Power Electronics Corp

Suits battery-powered equipment

San Jose, Ca…Advanced Power Electronics Corp. (USA), a leading Taiwanese manufacturer of MOS power semiconductors for DC-DC power conversion applications, today announced the APE2902, a high-efficiency VFM Step-up DC/DC converter for small, low input voltage or battery powered systems with ultra-low quiescent supply current. Devices can operate from a positive input voltage between the start-up voltage and VOUT and convert it to a higher output voltage, adjustable in 0.1V steps from 2.5 to 5V range with an accuracy of ±5%.

APE2902 converters combine ultra-low 22µA (typ.) quiescent supply current and high efficiency (typ 87% at VOUT = 5V) to give maximum battery life. The high switching frequency and the internally limited peak inductor current permits the use of small, low cost inductors. Only three external components are needed: an inductor a diode and an output capacitor. The APE2902 is suitable to be used in battery powered equipment where low noise, low ripple and ultra-low supply current are required. Maximum shutdown current is lower than 1µA and output current is up to 100mA. Devices feature a very low start-up voltage and internal soft-start.

Comments Ralph Waggitt, President/CEO, Advanced Power Electronics Corp. (USA): “Typical applications include pagers, cameras & video camera, cellular telephones, wireless telephones, palmtop computer, battery backup supplies, and other battery powered equipment.

The APE2902 is available in the very small RoHS/REACH compliant SOT-23-5L package. For more information, please go  to www.a-powerusa.com/docs/APE2902-3.pdf
