Ametek Adds Message Center to Universal Instrument Panel Family

Universal Instrument Panel-Message Center (UIP-MC) Offers Features and Custom Options in Multifunctional Instrument Package

GRAND JUNCTION, CO-AMETEK Vehicular Instruments Systems (VIS) - the industry leader in custom dashboard and instrument displays for heavy trucks as well as construction, military and other specialty vehicles-has added the UIP-MC (Universal Instrument Panel-Message Center) to its UIP family of dashboard displays.

Based on AMETEK's field-proven Next Generation Instrumentation (NGI®) architecture, the UIP-MC satisfies the instrument requirements for a broad range of vehicle platforms with easily customized gauges, telltales and displays. The UIP-MC panel can be customized to a specific vehicle's requirements in minimal time and with no tooling costs.

The AMETEK UIP-MC features a large, easy-to-read graphics display that provides real-time data, diagnostics, fault codes, user setup features and maintenance requirements. The compact panel has 22 LED telltales along with seven gauge warning LEDs to alert operators of vehicle conditions. The heated 340 x 90 display is available with variable backlighting in white with green, red, amber and blue as options.

Among the panel's seven gauges is a bar graph gauge with four progressive bars that can be used to satisfy the requirements for a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) gauge on Tier IV diesel engines. The gauge's green bars indicate the current DEF level in 25% increments. The lowest bar can change from green to amber to red at customer specified levels to alert the operator to low and critically low conditions.

The instrument panel collects data from the vehicle's J1939 CAN data bus, discrete switch inputs and analog inputs. One of the panel's two J1939 CAN inputs can be used as a J1587 data bus input. Optional external NGI gauges also can be added to the system, giving it additional versatility and functionality.

The UIP-MC meets all SAE J1455 and J113 requirements for vehicular instrumentation. With its high-impact black ABS housing and scratch-resistant clear cover, the UIP-MC is designed to withstand harsh conditions of typical off-road environments. The panel is sealed front and back to IP67 specifications.

The UIP-MC instrument panel is based on AMETEK's highly successful NGI modular dashboard instrument system that provides a reliable, cost-effective alternative to analog gauges found on heavy trucks and other vehicles. The fully, digital multiplexed system lends itself to both new and retrofit applications.

The NGI system is appropriate for a wide range of vehicles, including road-building and construction equipment, trucks and other commercial vehicles, buses, coaches and recreational vehicles, earth-moving and mining equipment, utility and emergency vehicles, farm vehicles and agricultural equipment.

AMETEK VIS is a leading manufacturer of custom dashboard instruments and displays for heavy trucks, construction, and agricultural equipment and a division of AMETEK, Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with annual sales of $3.0 billion.
