GE Announces Portable ARINC 429 USB Adapter to Speed Monitoring, Test and Debugging of Avionics Systems

GE ARINC tool now available for ubiquitous USB 2.0 interface

Powerful, easy-to-use software environment shortens development time, reduces cost

Flexible range of configuration options

HUNTSVILLE, AL.— GE Intelligent Platforms (NYSE: GE) today announced the intelligent, high density RAR-USB ARINC 429 USB Adapter. Designed for users to test ARINC systems and for debugging, monitoring and analyzing bus traffic and data recording, it is bundled with the BusTools ARINC GUI to deliver a powerful, flexible tool. The RAR-USB takes advantage of the ubiquitous USB interface, meaning that it can be used in conjunction with Windows® computing systems from Windows XP onwards.

The RAR-USB is further evidence of GE’s commitment to making available avionics solutions that are powerful and flexible, and that respond to the needs of customers. It provides up to 16 fully independent receive channels along with up to five fully independent transmit channels and eight bi-directional avionics-level discretes. Features include programmable bus rates and parity, error detection, time-tagging and adjustable slew rates. Configuration options include a selection of channel count, along with a mix of support for ARINC 429 and 573/717. The RAR-USB is also available in a rugged version for use in harsh environments. The RAR-USB does not require an external power supply, as it is powered by the USB bus.

GE’s associated BT-ARINC bus analyzer software tool significantly reduces the time required to integrate ARINC protocols and discrete I/O into portable applications. Included with the RAR-USB is a high-level API (Application Programming Interface) library, with support for software development under Microsoft 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP operating systems. These tools are complemented by GE’s deep and broad support that ensures customers get real benefit from the capabilities of those solutions

“Functionality provided by the RAR USB includes the ability to monitor multiple channels in real-time and to display and enter time-tagged data in hex, binary or engineering units,” said Dwayne Cripe, Product Manager, GE Intelligent Platforms .”Received data can be filtered by label and/or SDI, and discrete descriptors and user bit-encoded values can be viewed. Users can also display historical and real-time charts of individual labels, and benefit from the ability of BusTools/ARINC to send multiple messages of varying sizes with automatic ramping. All time-tagged data from multiple channels to a single disk file can be logged, and recorded data replayed on transmit buses.”
