Fairchild Semiconductor's USB Accessory Switch - Packs the Most Multi-Media Functionality in the Industry's Smallest Footprint

Allows Microphone, High-Speed USB Data and UART Data All on One Port

SAN JOSE, Calif. - October 8, 2009 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) brings designers of cell phones, PDAs and MP3 players a USB accessory switch - the smallest that integrates all of the key multi-media functionality into a low profile UMLP package (1.8mm x 2.6mm x 0.55mm). The FSA800 offers built-in charger detection, 28V of overvoltage tolerance, built-in termination resistors, and negative swing capability. The integration of this rich functionality in a compact package simplifies and reduces external components in portable designs.

The FSA800's rich functionality includes:

o Built-in charger detection, simplifying design.

o Capability of handling USB data, stereo and mono audio, microphone and UART data all on a common connector port and is the only switch able to handle microphone data.

o Low on capacitance (7pf), allowing data to move swiftly along the signal path.

o Built-in termination resistors that eliminate the pop noise that frequently happens when plugging in an audio jack in a cell phone or MP3 player.

o 28V of over-voltage tolerance on the VBUS pin to ensure robust protection against high voltage events.

o Negative swing capability so that audio signals can swing below ground, eliminating the need for AC coupling capacitors. Many alternate solutions do not have this capability and two capacitors must be added into the design.

The FSA800 is part of a comprehensive portfolio of Fairchild's USB solutions. These switches are ideal for USB port isolation, connector sharing and signal multiplexing. They are often used to share or route USB ports and to isolate Flash memory / uDisk removable devices. The switches are designed to be compliant with USB2.0 Full Speed (FS) and Hi-Speed (HS) with bandwidths in excess of 720MHz.

Price (each, 1000 pcs.): $0.70
