Futronic Launches FS50 FIPS201/PIV Compliant USB2.0 Two Finger Scanner
Press release date: September 25, 2009
HONG KONG, Sept. 25 -- Futronic Technology Company Limited, a global provider of fingerprint recognition software and hardware products, announces the commercial release of FS50 FIPS201/PIV Compliant USB2.0 Two Finger Scanner.
FS50 is a portable Fingerprint Scanner with 1.6 x 1.5 inch (40.64 x 38.10 mm) scanning area. Its advanced optical system can capture 800 x 750 pixels and 500 DPI image in 0.1 second. The large finger scanning area can capture two flat fingerprints and rolled fingerprint which are now essential for law enforcement, border control and National ID applications. It can handle bad fingers such as dry, wet, blurred and scarred without any problem. Its scanning window is crown glass prism and there is special anti-scratching coating on the scanning surface. This makes FS50 even more robust and ensures long term heavy duty usage in any harsh environment.
FS50 received FBI certification for compliance with PIV-071006 Image Quality Specification. This means that it meets the US Federal Information Processing Standard 201(FIPS 201) for Personal Identification Verification (PIV) of Federal Employees and Contractors. The FIPS 201 was developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in response to Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). It is for enhancing the security of Federal facilities and information systems by applying stricter access control. With FBI certification, FS50 will be put in the US General Services Administration (GSA) FIPS 201 Evaluation Program Approved Product List soon.
"This launch was the result of our long term dedication and investment to product development," said YM Jiang, Futronic's Vice President of Marketing. "FS50 is our solution to the growing needs for rolled finger and multi fingers scanning which are typical requirements for criminal identification and public identity management applications. We are now ready to participate in those demanding government initiated projects through our worldwide partners."
Futronic provides Application Programming Interface (API) for FS50 to capture fingerprint image on Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 for 32 and 64 bit, as well as Windows CE 5.0/6.0 and Linux with kernel 2.4 or higher.
FS51, the OEM module of FS50, is available to customers who want to integrate FS50 into their own products, such as handheld ID verification machine, portable voter registration station, etc. FS51 is same as FS50 but without plastic shell and USB cable for embedding into any target system. Futronic will provide its detail mechanical drawing upon request.
