July 10, 2008 - SWT and EWT series of high power tubular wirewound resistors offer power ratings from 12-1,300 W in values from 0.1 W up to 1.3 MW, depending on size. SWT series is silicone coated and EWT series is vitreous enamel coated. Power resistors are used as load resistors for high power motors or power supplies for welders, and for dynamic braking for large electric motors. Other applications include large capacitor discharge, large power converters, and high power rail systems.

Stackpole Electronics, Inc. Expands Tubular Wirewound Product Offering

RALEIGH, NC (July 2, 2008) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. announces the expansion of the SWT and EWT series of high power tubular wirewound resistors. These two series now incorporate the industry's most common wattages, power ratings, and hardware. This expansion will allow design engineers the ability to design in the Stackpole SWT / EWT as a replacement for other manufacturers that may have product that is more difficult or costly to source. For the same reason, it also simplifies the initial design-in process.

The SWT series is silicone coated and the EWT series is vitreous enamel coated. These are the two most common coatings used in the industry for these power resistor types. Both series are capable of power ratings from 12 watts up to 1300 watts in values from 0.1 ohm up to 1.3 Megohms depending on size. 5% and 10% tolerances are standard and the part can be ordered with the typical mounting hardware by adding "M" to the end of the Series (e.g. SWTM and EWTM). Other hardware options are also available; contact the factory for more details.

These types of power resistors are most commonly used as load resistors, for high power motors or power supplies for things such as welders, and for dynamic braking for large electric motors. Other applications using high power tubular wirewounds include large capacitor discharge, large power converters, and high power rail systems.

Because of their relatively large size and large range of sizes, these parts are packaged differently depending on the size chosen. Typically the minimum order quantity will range from 10 to 200 pieces and will correspond to the minimum order increment. Contact Stackpole for more details. Pricing also varies widely from the smallest part to the largest and ranges from around $1.60 each up to $50 each.

Stackpole Electronics Inc. is a leading global manufacturer of resistors supplying to the worlds largest OEMs, contract manufacturers and distributors. Headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., the privately held company began manufacturing in 1928 as part of Stackpole Carbon Company in St. Mary's, Pennsylvania. Now affiliated with Akahane Electronics, Stackpole has manufacturing facilities in Japan, Taiwan, China and Mexico; warehousing facilities in El Paso, Hong Kong and Japan; and sales offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
