Directed Light's Contract Manufacturing Division Offers Tube Cutting and Welding to Medical Device Manufacturing Industry

SAN JOSE, CA -February 10, 2004- Successful laser cutting of thin-wall small diameter tubes for medical use requires a precise combination of the proper equipment married with applications expertise. Laser operators need to have a thorough understanding not only of the properties of the material being cut - whether titanium, Nitinol, stainless steel, or other - but also of the laser being used to avoid expensive waste. DLI's laser operators have that understanding, as well as an average of seven years' laser machining experience.

DLI utilizes a Lee® Nd:YAG laser with an ultra-precision CNC motion system which provides sub-micron XY and rotary positional resolution and proprietary beam delivery. Directed Light's Contract Manufacturing division has been cutting small diameter tubes - such as those found in medical applications - around the clock, for more than 15 years. Finished jobs boast clean cuts with excellent edge quality. Parts are processed using statistical process control and x-bar/r charts and process histograms are supplied to customers. Full service capabilities range from R&D and short-run jobs to full 24/7 production.

Founded in 1983, Directed Light, provides critical replacement components and service for most makes and models of industrial, medical and scientific laser systems. In addition DLI also provides advanced manufacturing solutions through contract laser processing, (i.e. cutting, welding, and drilling),. The company is a member of the Unitek Miyachi Group. Company Headquarters is located at 633 River Oaks Parkway, San Jose, CA, 95134-1907.

Contact Directed Light at (408) 321-8500, or 1-800-468-2326 or by email at info@directedlight.com. DLI may be found on the intemet at www.directedlight.com.
