Transmitter/Receiver offer contact closure relay option.

Press Release Summary:

Transmitter and Receiver Modules VT1101M and VR1100-CC can incorporate contact closure relay for alarm-event notification. Addition of relay allows device such as dome tamper switch or alarm event input to be added and its signal transmitted back to monitoring location, eliminating need for additional wiring. Modules support distances up to 2.5 miles without repeaters. Operating temperature is -40 to 74°C.

IFS Extends Capabilities of Successful Mini Fiber Optic Transmitter By Adding Contact Closure Feature

New VT1101M/VR1100-CC Offer addition of Contact Closure Relay for Alarm-Event Notification

NEWTOWN, CT. November 15, 2003 -International Fiber Systems Incorporated (IFS), a leading manufacturer of fiber optic transmission equipment, has announced the introduction of a new model for its existing VT1101M Series mini-video transmitter and VR1100 video receiver. The IFS VT1101M and the VR1100 now have the option of adding a contact closure relay along with transmitting video. The new models are the VT1101M/VR1100-CC pairing. The addition of the contact closure relay allows an additional device such as a dome tamper switch or alarm event input can be added and its signal transmitted back to the monitoring location. This feature eliminates the need for additional wiring to support the alarm contact closure.

The VT1101M Series is a miniature-designed module and was introduced to fill the need for a camera mounted fiber optic transmitter that could take the standard video output and convert it to be transmitted optically over fiber. The VT1101M transmitter and VR1100 receiver are one of the most demanded products within the IFS line. The industry trend toward digital recording has created a demand for a fiber optic transmission product that has the capability to transmit an alarm event signal back to the recorder to turn on the recording device when an event occurs. The VT1101M and the VR1100-CC have that capability. According Bruce Beermen, ITS Sales & Marketing Manager. "Digital Recording has become the standard in the industry. But, hard drive space at is always at a premium. We designed the VT1101M and VR1100-CC to be able to switch on the recording in the event that a door opens or a motion detector triggers an incident, thereby conserving recording space."

"We see the addition of this feature to be a tremendous benefit to today's system designers and integrators. By using these
contact closure event triggers, recorders with less capacity can utilized, offering a cost saving to the end user." said Berman.
"More and more installations are utilizing optical fiber as the transmission network backbone. In addition to the extended
distances, the benefit to using optical fiber is to eliminate ground loops while offering a secure medium that is virtually
impossible to tap into. It also offers superior signal transmission even in environments that are subject to hostile
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) or Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)." Bernan concluded.

The VT1101M and VR100-CC are designed for ease of use and to be maintenance free. These modules will operate in extreme climates and have an operating temperature range of -40°C to 74°C. The unit can support distances of up to 2.5 miles (4 km) without repeaters.
