TI's New Auto-Direction Voltage-Level Translation Devices Improve Connectivity Between Next-Generation Processors and Peripherals

DALLAS (Dec. 19, 2006) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced the release of two new bi-directional voltage-level translation devices, TXB0104 and TXS0104E, that improve connectivity between next-generation processors and peripheral devices. Eliminating the requirement for direction control signals used by traditional voltage-level translation devices, designers are able to decrease the complexity of control software and save valuable GPIOs on core processors.

The TXB0104, a 4-bit bidirectional voltage-level translator, provides universal low-voltage bidirectional translation between any of the 1.2-V, 1.5- V, 1.8-V, 2.5-V, 3.3-V, and 5-V nodes. Vcca accepts any supply voltage from 1.2-V to 3.6-V. The B port is designed to track Vcca. Vccb accepts any supply voltage from 1.65-V to 5.5-V. This device is suitable for applications such as SD card interface via SD 1-bit mode or SPI mode.

For open drain applications, such as I2C or MMC card interface (initialization mode), TI's new TXS0104E, 4-bit bidirectional voltage-level translator, contains integrated pull-up resistors saving valuable board real estate and total system cost. The TXS0104E uses two separate configurable power-supply rails. The A port is designed to track Vcca. Vcca accepts any supply voltage from 1.65-V to 3.6-V; Vcca must be less than or equal to Vccb. The B port is designed to track Vccb. Vccb accepts any supply voltage from 2.3-V to 5.5-V. This allows for low-voltage bidirectional translation between any of the 1.8-V, 2.5-V, 3.3-V, and 5-V voltage nodes.

Key Features:
o ±15kV ESD protection on the B-port
o Vcc Isolation Feature
o OE Input Circuit Referenced to Vcca
o Low Power Consumption, 4-uA Max ICC
o Ioff Supports Partial-Power-Down Mode Operation
o No Power-Supply Sequencing Required - Vcca or Vccb Can Be Ramped First

Packaging, Pricing, and Availability
The TXB0104 and TXS0104E are offered in traditional SOIC (D), TSSOP (PW) and QFN (RGY) packages, as well as the space saving 12-ball BGA (ZXU) package. Both devices are available to sample in all package options. Budgetary pricing for the TXB0104ZXUR is set at $1.21 in quantities of 1,000. Budgetary pricing for the TXS0104EZXUR is set at $1.41 in quantities of 1,000.
