New Magnetrostrictive Sensors Feature 62.5 µs Update Rate

Southborough, MA...Novotechnik U.S. has introduced its new TLM Series of magnetostrictive position sensors that provide non-contact, absolute, reliable, and extremely fast measurement with a data output update rate of 16 kHz.

Utilizing "Novostrictive" measuring technology, an ASIC provides signal conditioning and linearization enabling Novotechnik TLM transducers to provide absolute linearity < ±30 µm with either its synchronous serial interface (SSI) or DyMoS interface over stroke lengths from 100 to 4500 mm.

Designed for easy installation, low-profile TLM Series transducers are designed with non-contact floating position-markers for wear-free operation providing unlimited mechanical life, and unlimited transverse speed of the markers. The sensors can be operated with two markers simultaneously.

Key specifications include: Resolution of less than or equal to 2 µm and repeatability of less than or equal to 6 µm in start/stop mode, and each is less than or equal to 5 µm for both SSI and DyMoS interfaces. TLM sensors are sealed to IP 67. Units provide output options of analog 0-10 V, 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA, as well as digital SSI, Start/Stop, and DyMoS.

DyMoS is Novotechnik's enhanced serial interface that, in addition to position value, can transmit accurate transverse velocity without an encoder and data transmission error checking. Each data frame contains 24- or optionally 25-bits
for SSI and 2 x 20-bits for DyMoS interface.

Designed to withstand shock and vibration up to 100G/12G, TLM Series transducers have an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
