J. J. Keller Introduces Supervisor Training Series for Handling Difficult Conversations

Neenah, WI - J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. recently introduced Conquering Difficult Conversations: A Supervisor's Training Series, a set of four video programs designed to help give supervisors knowledge and confidence to address sensitive subjects with employees.

Each program uses role-playing to demonstrate both effective and ineffective examples of handling employee relations situations, stressing the importance of acting in an objective, unbiased manner. The series includes these programs:

Managing Conflict discusses how to best moderate various types of conflict between coworkers, between a supervisor and a subordinate, and between two supervisors. Conflicts covered include enforcing company policies, addressing work-performance issues and personal relationships between coworkers, and respecting different work styles.

Addressing Personal Issues teaches supervisors how to address personal issues such as inappropriate dress, family issues and personal hygiene, that disrupt the workplace. It stresses the importance of focusing on work performance rather than the personal issue itself; maintaining confidentiality; and avoiding labeling or making assumptions.

Conducting Layoffs and Terminations provides ideas on how to handle this process effectively for the best interests of all involved. The program covers terminations due to ongoing tardiness, work-performance issues, violent behavior and eliminating a position. It stresses the importance of understanding the situation before proceeding, maintaining proper documentation, giving the message of termination or layoff clearly, and respecting the employee's dignity.

Providing Performance Coaching explains how to give direct, tactful and honest feedback to employees, whether outlining the need for performance improvements or offering praise. The program emphasizes the need for clearly defined and communicated expectations, feedback regarding whether an employee is meeting expectations, and reinforcement of desired behavior. It also stresses that coaching should be focused on performance rather than personal beliefs or differences.

Each program includes commentary from a variety of industry professionals, including a labor law attorney, HR management consultants and HR professors. Also part of each program is a training guide that provides background information and an overview of the video to help the trainer prepare for and deliver training, as well as 10 supervisor fact sheets that provide a take-along reference on key points from the training.

All four training programs are available in DVD and VHS formats. The DVD features extra content, present a forum where supervisors ask questions about sensitive subjects, which are discussed by industry professionals.

All four videos are available for $679 (DVD format) or $549 (VHS format). Programs are also available separately for $245 each (DVD format) or $199 each (VHS format) by calling 1-800-327-6868 or visiting www.jjkeller.com/786vt. Callers should reference Action Code 14946 when ordering.
