New Schindler 400Aâ„¢ Traction Elevator System Offers Machine Room-Less Solution for Mid-Rise Buildings

SAN DIEGO, May 8, 2003—Schindler Elevator Corporation introduces its Schindler 400A™ elevator—the latest in its line of hassle-free and easy-to-install products— offering a machine room-less solution for a wide range of mid-rise buildings, including apartments, condominiums, offices and hotels. The Schindler 400A's compact machine can be installed within a simple hoistway and mounted directly to the elevator rails, requiring less building construction interface, simpler site preparation and less lead time.

"The Schindler 400A's innovative design eliminates the need for a traditional machine room," says Heikki Poutanen, president, Schindler Elevator Corporation. "This new cost-effective solution for building owners and managers is adapted from Schindler's successful Euroliftâ„¢ elevator system, of which there are several thousand installed in Europe. I am confident that we will increase our market position with the 400A system, which is engineered to meet all North American market needs."

Machine Room-less Solution Provides Architectural Appeal

A small, easy-access controller cabinet does it all, without intruding on rentable building space. The Schindler 400A, available in 2100 pound, 2500 pound, 3000 pound, and 3500 pound capacities, allows up to 21 openings (front/rear), is suitable for two to 20 stops and travels up to 200 feet at speeds of 200 and 350 fpm. If preferred, machine-room options are available.

The Schindler 400A can eliminate the need for an overhead machine room, which means flat (and usable) roofs, and less building interface at installation. A broad portfolio of finishes and options for cab interior and fixtures are available to suit all decors.

Smooth, Reliable Performance

The Schindler 400A's advanced solid state Miconic® GX controls and an innovative configuration support reliable performance and a smooth ride, and its precision 16-pound T-rails promote quiet and stable ascents and descents. With the unique underslung design, there is less side-to-side vibration because cables run diagonally beneath the cab for optimal balance. Advanced QKS16 variable frequency door operators provide smooth and safe door opening and closing.

Environmentally Friendly

The elevator system uses up to 40 percent less power than traditional elevator systems and high-efficiency equipment for clean, quiet and environmentally friendly operation. Energy-saving advanced Permanent Magnet gearless machines are remarkably compact and light. The high-efficiency variable frequency AC drive means smoother starts and stops and lower power consumption.

In addition, the Schindler 400A system also features Schindler Remote Monitoring (SRM), e-access through My Schindlerâ„¢ at www.us.schindler.com, and meets or exceeds applicable local and national codes.
