ADMET Introduces Torsion Testing Machines

NORWOOD, Mass. - May 12, 2009 - ADMET Inc., a provider of integrated materials testing systems, is introducing a new line of torsion testing machines, controllers and accessories. Called eXpert 81T, the torsion testers are table top units with capacities to 200 Nm (1,800 lb-in). The length of the test bed, servo motor and gearing is modified to accommodate varying specimen lengths, capacities and test speeds. A reaction torque transducer is attached to a movable tail stock mounted on a linear slide. The tail stock can be left free floating or clamped during testing.

The eXpert 81T is ideal for torsion testing bone, catheters, elastomers, fasteners, joints, metals, orthopaedic devices, plastics, shafts, small components, vascular devices, wire and more. Users wishing to perform biaxial tests in tension/compression and torsion have several options. When the tail stock of the eXpert 81T is left free floating, the user can apply an axial pre-load to the specimen using a weight and pulley arrangement. The eXpert 81T can also be equipped with a second linear actuator for applying tension and compression forces.

The new line of torsion testers complements ADMET's full line of single- and dual-column tensile testers. Commented Richard Gedney, ADMET founder and president, "ADMET has built custom-designed torsion testing machines over the years and has decided to formalize the offerings with the eXpert 81T. Customers' needs vary from requiring torsion only to being able to perform tension and torsion simultaneously. With the eXpert 81T, we are offering the flexibility to perform one or both."

ADMET offers two closed loop servo controllers for performing static or dynamic tests under torque or angle rate control. They are MTESTQuattro(TM), a PC-based controller with software that offers the most flexibility in control, data analysis and reporting, or the eP Digital Controller, a standalone unit that is ideal for quality control testing. Both controllers offer calculation of key test parameters, such as ultimate shear strength, yield shear strength, Modulus of Rigidity, Modulus of Rupture in shear, angle of rotation and more.

The eXpert 81T supports production and research in biomedical, biomechanical and other advanced applications. It is available for order immediately from ADMET whose engineers will work with customers to specify the systems.
