Utilizing 2 servo motors, which are synchronized for through-hole applications, SSM4 and SSM5 Drap Units are capable of high-speed drilling and tapping for class 3 thread production in single pass. Units are available with feed motors ranging from 2.8 lb-ft at 3,000 rpm to 15.85 lb-ft at 2,000 rpm, and spindle motors from 15.86-36.95 lb-ft at 2,000 rpm. Touchscreen control features conversational software that facilitates programming and active diagnostics.

SUGINO Introduces DRAP Units Drill and Tap With a Single Tool
Sugino Corp, (Itasca, IL) introduces their modified SSM4 and SSM5 drill units. These units are designed with a modified configuration which utilizes two servo motors, which are synchronized for through-hole applications; Sugino's Drap units are capable of high-speed drilling and tapping to produce class 3 thread production in a single pass. They feature infinite control of feed rates and RPMs allowing program control of the dual servos with a ball screw movement for rigid tapping. The no float design of the SSM4 and SSM5 allows them to provide the same repeatability and functionality as a machine center for a fraction of the cost. The turnkey units come with powerful Mitsubishi servo motors as standard equipment; other manufacturer's servo motors and controls are available upon request. The touch screen control monitor features conversational software that simplifies programming and active diagnostics. SSM4 and SSM5 are available with feed motors ranging from 2.8 Ft.lbs. of torque @ 3,000 RPM to 15.85 Ft.lbs. of torque @ 2,000 RPM and spindle motors rated from 15.86 Ft.lbs of torque @ 2,000 RPM to 36.95 Ft.lbs. of torque @ 2,000 RPM.
