June 18, 2002 - ThermoGrip® shrink-fit toolholders can be used with carbide and high-speed steel cutting tools. Made from heat resistant tool steel with hardening process, they maintain high concentricity and elasticity even after large number of shrinking cycles. Internal geometry provides maximum gripping force with near-perfect concentricity. Toolholders and extensions are available for any spindle mounting style, with DIN standard metric and inch specifications.

Bilz Thermogrip® Toolholder Specially Engineered for Thermal Clamping Applications

Elk Grove Village, Ill., May 24, 2002 - Bilz Tool Company (Elk Grove Village) has announced its line of ThermoGrip® shrink-fit toolholders, designed specifically to provide reliable performance in thermal clamping applications. According to company engineers, Bilz ThermoGrip holders have a unique combination of metallurgical properties and mechanical features, making them suitable to the rigors of repeated thermal clamping cycles with both carbide and high-speed steel cutting tools.

The grip of a shrink-fit holder is based on proportional temperature expansion of solid materials. The effect to the holder of increasing temperature causes the inner diameter to increase in size. The cutting tool is inserted into a heated and expanded bore of the holder, and a high radial clamping force is applied as it contracts to its normal size at room temperature. If the expansion is within the elastic range of the holder's material specification, the clamping operation is reversible and can be repeated as often as required.

Bilz ThermoGrip toolholders are made from special heat resistant tool steel with a proprietary hardening process that enables the holders to maintain high concentricity and elasticity even after a high number of shrinking cycles. According to Bilz engineers, this exclusive material has been tested to withstand the repetitive heating and cooling of shrink-fit applications without premature fatigue that can lead to catastrophic cracking and failure.

Bilz ThermoGrip toolholders also feature a proprietary internal geometry that provides maximum gripping force with near-perfect concentricity.

ThermoGrip toolholders and tool extensions are available with DIN standard metric and inch specifications, and for any spindle mounting style. Bilz supplies its ThermoGrip inductive heating processors which are compatible with ThermoGrip shrink-fit toolholders.
