Bay Microsystems Unveils Lighthouse(TM) Tool Suite for Chesapeake Network Processor

ANAHEIM, Calif., March 26 -- OFC/NFOEC Conference -- Bay Microsystems, Inc., the world's fastest growing network processor company, today announced that it has formally released the Lighthouse Tool Suite for its Chesapeake 40G Network Processor and Multimedia Traffic Manager. In a related announcement today, the company announced its first shipments of Chesapeake, an advanced commercial networking silicon solution targeted at high performance Ethernet for service providers and Multi-Service markets.

Lighthouse(TM) is a comprehensive development tool suite facilitating the design of network processor-based networking equipment. Lighthouse includes the hardware and software tools necessary to enable customers to design, develop, debug and deliver next generation networking equipment addressing today's most sophisticated network requirements. The entire tool suite has been created with the goal of reducing development time and facilitating design, debug, validation and test at the full system level.

The innovative Lighthouse development environment allows customers to fully exploit the advantages of Chesapeake's patented, deterministic architecture and unique programming model. Lighthouse sets a new standard in simplified, application-oriented programming. More specifically, Bay's NEXTware(TM) APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), which are used to program Chesapeake, abstract low level instruction details while retaining programming flexibility and eliminating the need for any micro-programming.

"With respect to developing high-end, next generation networking platforms, the Holy Grail for our customers is the ability to exploit the flexibility and performance of network processors while experiencing the simple and well understood programming models of today's microprocessors. In conjunction with Chesapeake, the Lighthouse Tool Suite has evolved to overcome the historic programming burdens associated with NPU architectures," said Santhosh Vasanthakumar, product marketing manager, Bay Microsystems. "With Lighthouse, we believe we have met this challenge and customers are validating our success as we collaborate to create applications for their target systems."

Lighthouse features an extensive set of applications for switch and router platforms. Bay offers customers the flexibility to extend, customize and develop new applications to meet their specific functionality and performance targets. These development tools enable system designers to evaluate Chesapeake for both performance and feature compliance.

Lighthouse includes:

-- Software Development Environment (SDE)
-- Cycle and Pipeline accurate Chesapeake Simulator
-- GUI-based IDE with Project Manager/Compiler/Debugger
-- Traffic Generator, Traffic Analyzer
-- Production-ready NEXTware APIs

Hardware Development Environment (HDE) -- BayPort(TM). The BayPort evaluation platform includes Chesapeake based reference boards supporting multiple 1G, 10G interfaces. In addition, BayPort also supports SPI interfaces to seamlessly integrate with external switch fabrics. BayPort general availability is targeted for Q2 of 2007

Availability

Lighthouse is now available to all customers developing with the Chesapeake network processor. Bay Microsystems is scheduling Lighthouse demonstrations for customers today. Lighthouse can be ordered as a complete single package or in a variety of individual components. Please contact Bay Microsystems's sales to arrange a private demonstration of the Lighthouse Tool suite or for more information on pricing and configurations.
