Matthews Offers Reformulated Tire Marking Ink to Eliminate Hazardous Solvent

Pittsburgh, PA, September 23, 2005 - Matthews International is offering a new white tire marking ink conforming to present day industry requirements. M-400SP has been reformulated to M-400 HF to eliminate all Hazardous Air Pollutant Solvents.

After extensive internal and field testing at beta sites, the company reports that the new M-400 HF ink is entirely comparable in performance and function with the original M-400 SP White in printers as well as on the marked tires themselves. Substitution of the new HAPS-Free formula for the previous formulation, which is now discontinued, is being made without any noticeable differences.

Matthews offset printing and striping systems are widely used by tire manufacturers to mark treads with production and batch control. M-400 HF is a bright, white ink that maintains its high contrast after curing. Its non-offsetting property reduces mold maintenance.

The company states that clean air standards are good for everyone and actively plans to pursue further projects that will improve inks and make them safer and more environmentally friendly.
