Agilent Technologies Introduces Seamless Integration Between Fastest State Analyzers and Fastest Available Real-time Oscilloscope

New application significantly reduces debug time through import and time correlation of 13 GHz scope waveforms with logic analyzer signals

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 7, 2005 Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced a time correlation application that provides a seamless integration between Agilent's Windows(r) XP-based logic analyzers and its real-time oscilloscopes. The Agilent E5850A gives designers the ability to capture real-time oscilloscope signals with up to 13 GHz bandwidth, correlate them to key digital signals on their logic analyzer -- including the industry's fastest 1.5 Gb/s state analyzer -- and view them all on one screen.

The new seamless integration significantly reduces the time to debug complex digital embedded systems in communications, wireless, consumer and defense electronics applications and helps them speed new technologies to market. Agilent will demonstrate this new application for the first time at the Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco, March 6 - 10, Booth No. 1214.

Higher clock speeds and increased system complexity are forcing designers to understand signal quality issues in the context of specific target conditions. These conditions could include triggering a logic analyzer on a state machine and viewing cross-coupling on a serial channel with a time-correlated oscilloscope. These conditions could also include catching a glitch with an oscilloscope and determining the exact state of the design during a memory read with a time-correlated logic analyzer.

Additional features to speed embedded system debug include the continuous tracking of timing markers between instruments and voltage marker capabilities on imported oscilloscope waveforms viewed in the logic analyzer interface. The Agilent E5850A lets design engineers move easily between their logic analyzer and scope as they pinpoint problems through continuous tracking of timing markers between instruments. For example, as designers search through their deep logic capture, the application automatically scrolls the oscilloscope window, saving them time, as they can quickly perform further analysis with the oscilloscope.

"Before today, it's been impossible to integrate such high-performance scopes and logic analyzers, and address such a wide range of application situations," says Ron Nersesian, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Design Validation Division. "High-end communications system designers are implementing high-speed DDRII memory and advanced serial I/O channels. They can now couple a system logic analyzer with their 13 GHz real-time oscilloscope and simultaneously view memory bus activity correlated to their 5 Gb/s serial channel all on one logic analyzer screen."

The Agilent E5850A works with Agilent's Windows XP-based logic analyzers running version 3.2, which includes the Agilent 1690 Series, the standalone 1680 Series and the modular 16900 Series logic analyzer systems. Connections can be made to all of Agilent's Windows XP-based real-time oscilloscopes, including the Infiniium family. It also connects to the new DSO6000 Series oscilloscopes announced in February 2005.
