Lloyd Instruments has announced the availability of the new TG4975 dedicated three point bend fixture for testing polystyrene in accordance with the standard EN 12089: 1997 (Method B). This is important in the evaluation of the properties of expanded polystyrene used for thermal insulation. This fixture is designed to perform three point bend tests on polystyrene samples measuring 300 x 150 x 50 mm (11.81 x 5.91 x 1.97 in). The jig consists of an extruded aluminium base with a fixed centre of 250 mm (9.84 in). Two circular supports are fitted to the base. The sample is placed centrally between the two supports and in parallel with them. An upper loading anvil with a 5/8 in eye end is fixed to the machine's load cell and driven down onto the sample midway between the two supports. The jig is designed for use with loads up to 1000 N (224.8 lbf).
