5 Thin Clients, One Mouse and Keyboard

Allows keyboard and mouse sharing among Thin Clients

Alpharetta, GA - May 16, 2003 - ACP (Automation Control Products, Alpharetta, GA) brings additional capability to their Thin Client products with a new module that lets users control multiple Thin Clients by moving the mouse cursor onto the screen of another Thin Client. This allows for simple, uncluttered installations where a single keyboard and mouse can control the displays on several different Thin Clients.

Although all ACP Enabled Thin Clients receive the same core software at boot up, specific client hardware options are accommodated with the addition of software modules. Some modules are automatically selected based on the Thin Client hardware, but some are optional and designed to enhance the basic functionality of the device. The latter includes such modules as the high-speed serial driver, instant failover, and X-Term emulation.

This latest module allows one ACP Enabled Thin Client with a keyboard and mouse (the 'master') to control up to four additional ACP Enabled Thin Clients (the 'slaves'). Slave clients are configured to be to the right, left, top or bottom of the master. To gain control of a slave client, the master moves the mouse off the corresponding edge of the screen and onto the slave's screen. The keyboard input destination matches the current mouse location.

While it is technically possible to have five Thin Clients chained together in this fashion, most users will have two or three Thin Clients and displays mounted in a single panel. The new module will let them slide the mouse off the screen of the master client and have it instantly jump to the screen of one of the slaves.

All application software remains unchanged, and programs displayed on each of the Thin Clients still run in separate sessions on the server. This is not a method of attaching two displays to a single Thin Client; rather it is a way to share a single keyboard and mouse among multiple existing clients.
