October 24, 2011 - LumetriScan(TM) 360 can be used on medical tubing up to 36 in. long or balloons of almost any size. Fully automated, non-contact system allows product to be rotated 360° and can scan length of item to map thickness of entire body. In addition to OptiGauge(TM) IR interferometer with 0.1 micron accuracy, system uses Class 1 eye-safe 1,310 nm LED to obtain reflections off of every surface it encounters and measure multiple layers simultaneously.

Lumetrics® Begins Shipment on New LumetriScan(TM) Measurement Systems

Rochester, NY - Lumetrics®, a leading manufacturer of measurement technology began shipment of its latest innovation, the LumetriScan(TM).

Lumetrics® has spent the past nine months developing the LumetriScan(TM), a fully automated, non-contact thickness measurement system for the medical industry. The LumetriScan(TM) 360 can be used on long-length medical tubing up to 36 inches in length or balloons of almost any size. The system is intended to reduce inspection costs, improve yields, and satisfy stringent FDA requirements for new and existing products.

"With the data obtained from the LumetriScan(TM) you can ensure higher-quality and more consistent products, and improve safety and customer satisfaction through a superior product", said President John Hart. "Our systems significantly reduce inspection and scrap costs and improve yields, providing a real economic reason to upgrade your inspection capabilities."

The LumetriScan(TM) 360 allows a product to be rotated 360 degrees and scan the length of an item, mapping the thickness of the entire body. For example, this technique can be used to take a series of measurements along the length of a medical balloon and do it at multiple pressures. This information is critical for the design of a newly developed balloon, and is equally important to the ongoing production process.

Lumetrics® has seen a continuous growth in recent years especially in the medical and ophthalmics industry. OptiGauge(TM)-based measurement systems are being used in six of the top 11 medical device manufacturers in the world, for measurement of balloons, catheters, films, and many other products.

The company also develops medical devices directly. Lumetrics® has significant R&D resources involved in development of cutting-edge products and was recently granted a patent on technology for evaluating the axial length of the human eye.
