Bayer Materialscience's Baytec® SPR 185A FR Thick Film Coating System Certified For Use In Hurricane Zones

Pittsburgh, February 28, 2008 - Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) LLC announced that its Baytec® SPR 185A FR thick film coating system has been certified by the Miami-Dade County Building Code Compliance Office for use as a roofing material in a high-velocity hurricane zone. This versatile spray system, which has been formulated specifically to protect metal or concrete industrial roof systems, was among the proven polyurethane coatings systems BMS highlighted at the recent 2008 Paint and Coatings Expo.

"Contractors and applicators looking for a long-lasting spray coating system that can take what Mother Nature dishes out can rely on Baytec SPR 185A FR thick film coating," said Mike Hurley, development scientist, BMS, who notes that the spray system combines durability, flexibility and rapid cure to create a monolithic seamless roof coating that provides exceptional protection against leaks, weathering and foot traffic. "We are pleased that this proven spray system has met the rigorous requirements for a roof covering material as set forth by the Miami-Dade County Building Code Compliance Office."

In fact, Baytec SPR polyurethane systems have been approved by a variety of federal, state and local authorities as well as civil engineering and consulting firms in the U.S. and worldwide. For example, the Baytec SPR 185A FR thick film coating system recently passed Underwriters Laboratories Inc.'s UL790 test for fire resistance of roof covering materials.

Baytec SPR membranes have been applied and in-service for more than 30 years in demanding environments around the world. The spray systems stand up to a number of demanding environments and offer excellent resistance to ozone, hydrolysis and many chemicals. Baytec SPR spray systems even pass the Ponding Water Test where other roof coatings fail.

The Baytec SPR 185A FR system offers additional advantages to contractors and applicators, as well. Because it is spray applied, application is quick and easy, eliminating the costly, labor-intensive and time-consuming application process of rolled sheet.
