Merquinsa to Introduce New Pearlthane® TPU LINE for the Auto Industry at NPE

Merquinsa/Merquinsa NA Exhibiting at NPE, South Hall, Booth #418

BARCELONA, SPAIN/SEABROOK, NH (April 18, 2006) - Merquinsa and Merquinsa North America Inc. plan to introduce a new line of fast cycling thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) for the demanding North American automotive industry at NPE 2006 with two grades of Pearlthane® D11T85UV and Pearlthane D11T93.

Company officials report that these grades have already met or exceeded major North American Tier 1 automotive specifications for gear shift knobs and spring insulators and are ideally suited for additional applications. Merquinsa plans to introduce additional grades by year end to further support its growth in the North American auto industry.

Merquinsa will be at NPE 2006, South Hall, Booth #418.

Benefits of the Pearlthane D11T85UV TPU line, based on Merquinsa proprietary polycaprolactone technology, include ease of processing in overmolding injection molding applications (2 shot molding) along with wearability and scratch resistance. The unique UV resistance and colorability of this 85A Shore A special TPU compound make it ideal for demanding 2 shot molding automotive interior applications. It exhibits very good adhesion to a wide range of polar substrates such as ABS and PC and ABS.

According to Merquinsa North America spokesman, Dennis P. Lauzon, North American Business Manager, "This Merquinsa TPU product exceeded the testing specifications layed out as well as all of the design attributes desired. Currently, this TPE can be overmolded onto any one of a variety of rigid substrates to provide an excellent 'leather-like' feel as well as impart the necessary wear and abrasion resistance. The material is shipped in clear pellet form for coloring from any of our warehouses located throughout the North American continent."

Pearlthane D11T93, a 93A Shore A TPU fast cycling compound, offers very good oil and grease resistance combined with outstanding abrasion resistance. Its superior temperature and hydrolysis performance versus standard polyester TPUs makes it a material of choice for elastomeric under-hood TPU applications.

Merquinsa is a world leading thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) specialty producer, providing globally innovative products for injection molding, extrusion, calendering, melt coating, compounding and adhesives applications.
