Fast and Reliable Testing Method Decreases Brake Part Noise and Increases Consumer Confidence
Cincinnati, OH - Normally occurring brake noise causes millions of dollars in unnecessary warranty repairs each year. THE MODAL SHOP, INC. helps solve this problem for many brake part manufacturers with its Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) testing system for use in production.
This nondestructive system tests calipers, anchors and disks using the Resonant Acoustic Method (NDT-RAMTM). By measuring, reporting, and archiving natural frequencies of brake components, it ensures NVH requirements are met on every piece. NDT-RAM works by impacting a brake component with a controlled, repeatable force and measuring the frequency response via an industrial microphone. With throughput rates of roughly one part per second, 100% quality inspection is easily attainable.
In addition to decreased part noise and increased manufacturing consistency, the test system features automated software reporting. This allows for part-specific information to be automatically or manually input on a per part basis. Pertinent information such as serial number, model number, lot data, weight and more can be entered. The NDT-RAM method provides 100% resonant inspection with no chemicals, magnetizing, part preparation or special handling required, plus NVH data is collected right in the production environment.
