Testing/Charging System helps monitor EMTA battery status.

Press Release Summary:

Battery Testing and Charging System helps cable system operators test, re-charge, and redeploy batteries from EMTA deployments. Comprised of servers, testing software, and tester/charger, system can be stacked to service up to 192 batteries in one 19 in. rack. It provides complete testing and battery charging linearity test for 2-, 3- and 4-cell battery packs. System can also plot minute by minute charging reports; provide current and voltage curves; and test power drain linearity.

PCT International Unveils Comprehensive System for Testing and Charging of EMTA Batteries

TEMPE, Ariz., Oct. 29 -- With batteries from early EMTA deployments approaching the end of their initial charge life, PCT International today announced the availability of a new solution that is designed to simplify the ability of cable system operators to test, re-charge and redeploy the units.

PCT International's Battery Testing and Charging System has been created to provide cable system operators with a comprehensive solution for ensuring the battery performance that EMTAs require to stay operational during extended power outages. The PCT International system includes servers, testing software and a tester/charger, and can be stacked to service up to 192 batteries in a single 19-inch rack.

PCT International is demonstrating the Battery Testing and Charging System at its booth (#13089) at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo October 28-30 in Denver.

"As batteries reach the recommended timeframe for testing and recharging, we've been working closely with operators to identify new ways to address those needs," said Cam Siddiqui, president of PCT Canada. "Our Battery Testing and Charging System enables the efficient evaluation, redeployment and battery swap program that our customers require to protect the integrity of their subscribers' voice services."

Designed for minimal footprint, the tester/charger units each are 2U chassis high and capable of testing /charging up to 12 batteries. Up to 16 of the units can be stacked in a standard 19-inch rack; the PCT International software package allows simultaneous real-time views of multiple tester chassis, allowing a single individual to manage the process for hundreds of batteries.

The system is capable of testing 2-cell and 4-cell battery packs (8.4Vdc @ 2.2Ah and 4.4Ah respectively) and 3-cell battery packs ( 10.95 to 12.6Vdc @ 2.2Ah) from most major manufacturers. The system provides complete testing and a battery charging linearity test. It also plots minute by minute charging reports for power storage and linearity plots; provides current and voltage curves during charging and discharge mode; and tests the power drain linearity of the fully charged battery.
