Tester inspects cable, wire, and switches.

Press Release Summary:

Multi-function unit tests electrical switch contact resistance, crushability of core cable, and compressibility of insulated wires. It measures interruptions in flow of electrical current in cable, wire, or switch sample subjected to compressive forces applied by materials-testing system. Suited for checking integrity of plastic insulation when force is applied, unit indicates which conductors have shorted together or broken through outer insulation.

Lloyd Instruments Sparks a Revolution in Cable, Wire and Switches Testing

LARGO, FL--Lloyd Instruments - the market leader in material-testing devices--has developed a new cost- effective testing system specifically for electrical cables, insulated wires and switches such as keypads on mobile phones and membrane switches.

The device consists of a precision-engineered multi-function testing unit used to test electrical switch contact resistance, the crushability of core cable, and the compressibility of insulated wires. It is designed to measure any interruption in the flow of electrical current in a cable, wire or switch sample subjected to compressive forces applied by a materials-testing system. Ideal for checking the integrity of plastic insulation when force is applied, the unit indicates which conductors have either shorted together or broken through the outer insulation.

The unit simply plugs into a range of 'Plus' or 'EZ' test machines from Lloyd Instruments and is fully controlled by the machine and Lloyd's powerful NEXYGEN(TM) MT software with Ondio(TM) advanced application builder software. Operating scripts for Ondio software, written especially by Lloyd Instruments developers, are available free to its customers. DC power output also can be introduced for other instruments such as potentiometers or thermocouples for additional test requirements such as plotting temperature during testing.

The Lloyd cable and switch test system is designed specifically for electronic components and cable manufacturers and for the building products manufacturers who are interested in integrating an affordable testing solution into their Quality Control or R&D applications.

LLOYD INSTRUMENTS, together with its CHATILLON and DAVENPORT brands, are part of the AMETEK Material Test Business Unit headquartered in Largo, Florida USA, with manufacturing operations based in Fareham, UK and the USA. AMETEK, Inc. is a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electric motors with annual sales or more than $1 billion.
