Nondestructive Device Tests & Images Bonds in Composite Materials

(West Chester, PA) --- New Bondetector(TM) from NDT International, Inc. is a lightweight test instrument that detects and provides a C-Scan image of bond flaws in composite parts and honeycomb structure elements for aircraft, aerospace, automotive, appliance, and other manufacturers. Typical applications are in locating and profiling dis-bonds, un-bonds, delaminations, porosity, and other structural violations. Tested materials include: non-metallic laminate components; metallic and non-metallic sandwich honeycomb components; sandwich construction with various types of cores; and, multi-layer components.

Weighing just 1.5 lbs., Bondetector(TM) is smaller than other bond analysis instruments and also costs much less. In addition, its unique C-Scan imaging/data acquisition feature allows for immediate visualization and interpretation of flawed areas.

The device uses three test modes: mechanical impedance analysis, impact analysis, and pitch-catch analysis, along with the C-Image reconstruction. Bondetector(TM) allows for simultaneous inspection of up to three layers while using three different preset test set-ups. Inspection is quick and easy.

A built-in bi-directional RS-232 communications port enables inspection results to be printed or transmitted to an external PC for storage and further processing via provided Windows®-based software. A wide range of transducers is available.

Other key features include:
oChoice of automatic tuning to the material under test, or spectrum analyzer mode for manual tuning
oBuilt-in power-independent memory can store up to 43 tuning parameter sets and more than 270 test results
oEmbedded batteries, charging unit and state-of-charge indicator
oFrequency range of 1 to 40 kHz
oCoordinate measurement error of +/- 1.5mm
oOperating temperature range of 0ºC to 50ºC
