Zephyr Releases PASSPORT WEB TO HOST 2004

Zephyr is pleased to announce the availability of the 2004 release of its popular PASSPORT WEB TO HOST software. Designed for Microsoft Windows XP/2000, PASSPORT integrates 3270, 5250, VT220 and SCO/ANSI terminal emulation within the framework of Internet Explorer and is commonly used within intranet portals to access host applications.

Among the enhancements in PASSPORT WEB TO HOST 2004:

Deployment from Multiple Platforms

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST can now be deployed from any Microsoft or Java-based application server. For each supported deployment platform, Zephyr provides detailed QuickStart instructions to get you up and running as quickly and easily as possible. The following deployment platforms are now supported.

Microsoft Deployment Platforms

Microsoft WIndows 2003 Server with IIS

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with IIS

Microsoft Windows NT Server with IIS

Java Application Server Platforms

IBM WebSphere (IBM zOS, OS/390, OS/400, AIX, etc.)

BEA WebLogic (IBM, HP, SUN, Linux, etc.)

Apache HTTP Server with Tomcat Servlet Engine

SCO ANSI UNIX Terminal Emulation

PASSPORT now supports SCO ANSI UNIX terminal emulation in both 7-bit and 8-bit mode. To configure an SCO ANSI session, start the Administration Configuration Program and configure a VT display session, then select SCO ANSI as the emulation type. SCO ANSI terminal emulation is an extension of VT terminal emulation.

VT Terminal Emulation Enhancements

VT 32 x 80 and 32 x 132 screen sizes added

VT scroll back buffer added

VT LK201 standard keyboard map provided

VT keys are now all auto repeat keys

VT420 F1, F2, F3, F4 and F5 keys added

VT Break key added

With its C++ design, PASSPORT WEB TO HOST stands out from other browser-based terminal emulation clients and outperforms Java-based competitors such as IBM Host On Demand when it comes to speed, reliability and on-going maintenance under Windows. For example, some reports suggest that a C++ client application can be as much as 70% faster under Windows than a comparable Java-based client solution. Others convey the potential frustration of maintaining a Java-based client application under Windows for an extended period of time.

When it comes to integration, PASSPORT can be used to integrate TN3270, TN5250, VT220 and SCO/ANSI host applications with other client, server or web applications using any number of API or macro interfaces, including HLLAPI, an object oriented API based on Attachmate EXTRA! Objects, or VBScript. Most PASSPORT customers use one of the interfaces to cut and paste data to and from the host session, and have the option of using one of two Zephyr toolkits - PASSPORT HLLAPI Toolkit or PASSPORT Objects Toolkit, to do the job. The toolkits contain sample source code that can be used to quickly develop code that will improve end-user productivity.
