Telescoping Crane mounts to standard rear axle truck.

Press Release Summary:

Series 1400 has maximum lift of 33 tons and comes with choice of three booms: 100 ft four-section, 110 ft four-section, and 127 ft five-section with synchronous boom extension that distributes boom weight and maximizes reach by telescoping proportionally. Crane is road-legal without special permits, allowing it to go anywhere without special transport arrangements. Standard open-rail rider-seat platform puts operator within reach of all crane controls.

National Crane Introduces New 1400 Rotating Cab Telescoping Crane With 33-Ton (29.94-t) Rating And Choice Of Three Booms To 127 FT (38.71-M)

Waverly, Nebraska-National Crane Corporation, American's truck-mounted hydraulic crane leader and a Grove Worldwide Company, has introduced its new rear-mount seated control Series 1400 telescoping crane.

The Series 1400 is rated with a maximum capacity of 33 tons (29.94 t) at a 6-ft (1.83-m) radius, an open-rail rider seat/enclosed cab option, and three boom options: a 100-ft (30.48-m) four-section boom, a 110-ft (33.53-m) four-section boom, and a 127-ft (38.7-m) five-section boom. All booms feature National's synchronous boom extension that efficiently distributes boom weight and maximizes reach by telescoping proportionally. Two jib options are available: a 30-ft (9.14-m) single-section and a 30-to-54 ft (9.14-to-I 6.46-m) pull-out. National's specially formulated polymer paint (patent pending) with easy glide wear pads provides smooth telescoping and retracting functions.

Maximum vertical hydraulic reach of the Series 1400 is 134 ft (40.84 m), with a maximum total vertical reach of 167 ft (52.12 m).

The 1400 series was created to fill a gap in National Crane's product line, according to Lyle Jacobson, Telescoping Product Manager. "The 1400 provides a lower priced option to the Series 1500, which has a 36-ton capacity, but provides more capacity than the 30-ton Series 1300. The Series 1400 fits nicely into an area that will benefit such users as utility contractors and crane service companies. It also provides some features that other cranes in this class simply cannot offer."

Roadability is also a big benefit of the Series 1400, according to Jacobson. "This crane, on a standard chassis, is road-legal without special permits, allowing it to go anywhere, any time without the added complications of special transport arrangements," he says.

The standard open-rail rider-seat platform puts the operator within easy reach of all crane controls, including the load monitor indicator (LMI). An optional foot pedal controls telescoping and lift functions. The optional cab configuration provides operator comfort through ventilation and climate control features.

The Series 1400 mounts on a standard commercial tandem rear axle truck and can be equipped with a variety of accessories, including personnel baskets to accommodate up to two people. Mounting configuration allows for 7-ft (2.13-m) of cargo space.

A new main control valve with calibrated spools provides smooth hydraulic operation and eliminates mechanical linkages. The 1 400's Speedy-reeve boom tip with three lower sheaves and new Speedy-reeve one sheave block allows reeving of from one to three parts of line, simply by pulling four pins.

The outrigger span, both front and rear, of 24-ft 6-in (7.47-m) with 24-in diameter pads provide excellent stability on virtually any terrain. The Series 1400 also provides an optional mid-span outrigger chart at 17 ft (5.18 m).

Load Moment Indicator (LMI) and Anti-Two-Block (ATB) systems are standard on the Series 1400. The weather-proof PAT Model DS 160 LMI provides the operator with a continuous reading of available capacity as it makes a lift. When the load capacity is approached, a caution light illuminates on the LMI console; when full capacity is reached, an audio/visual alarm warns the operator to take corrective action and the LMI deactivates functions that could contribute to an overload. The system automatically adjusts when the overload is relieved, allowing the resumed use of all crane functions. The ATB shuts down functions that can cause two-blocking when a winch cable attachment contacts a switch below the sheave case, either by winching up or by extending the boom without paying out cable.

One of National's innovative features standard on the Series 1400 Cab Model is internal anti-two-block wiring (patent pending), which routes the ATB system wiring through the inside of the boom. This eliminates the potential of damage to the wire cauised by contact with tree limbs, structures or other physical hazards during operation.

All National cranes are subjected to rigorous testing that pays special attention to boom strength and performance. Each crane undergoes a rigid quality inspection throughout the manufacture and assembly process. Quality, versatility, rugged performance and strong after-sale support are National Crane hallmarks, underscored by the fact that more than 90 percent of all Nationals, manufactured since 1963, are still in operation throughout the world.
