Prosody X Telephony Resource Card - Packaged for Your Convenience

A 1U chassis renders form factor irrelevant and facilitates virtualisation

Milton Keynes, UK - Aculab, a leading provider of enabling technology for the global communications market, is pleased to announce that Prosody X, its award winning, DSP-based telephony resources platform, is now available in a 1U, 19-inch chassis. This new form factor offers a highly practical alternative to DSP boards for developers needing E1/T1 trunk interfaces to the PSTN and SIP trunking connections to IP networks.

Commenting on this new release, Ian Colville, Product Manager at Aculab, noted, "With Prosody X in a 1U chassis, form factor is rendered irrelevant as developers no longer need to worry about sourcing hard to find server configurations. We all know that those reasonably priced PCs and telecommunications servers with enough 'right size' PCIe slots, or adapters for PCI cards, are becoming increasingly difficult to procure. What is even trickier is being able to productise an application in a chassis that can be consistently and cost-effectively procured. Aculab's 1U chassis provides a straightforward 'plug & configure' option for Prosody X and a practical solution for developers."

Available now, with 4 E1/T1 trunks and 2 DSPs in an enterprise model, the range of 1U chassis options will soon expand to support up to 16 E1/T1 trunks and 8 DSPs. That means a high-density, high availability model will offer in excess of 1200 channels of simultaneous telephony media processing, for both TDM and VoIP traffic. The APIs are the same as those used for board-based Prosody X designs.

Whereas the product can be viewed as removing the need for expensive servers to run boards, it also offers the option of a plug in device for easy field replacement, which in turn enables new possibilities for fault tolerance.

Furthermore, this newly available, 1U chassis option for Aculab's Prosody X facilitates the virtualisation of telephony-based application software, leading to additional cost-efficiency benefits for developers. That advantageous consideration was something that Dennis Jehne, lead developer with 4Com GmbH Co. KG, a leading provider of value added services and contact centre solutions in Germany, was quick to latch onto. "The whole idea sounds great for us as we already use Prosody X cards via remote configuration. The 1U chassis would be a great extension to the whole scenario where our software runs as a virtual machine, talking to Prosody X located in a 'black box' on the LAN," complimented Jehne.

This in-chassis implementation of Prosody X leverages Aculab's core expertise in combining telephony media processing technologies into a powerful and flexible proposition. The Prosody X hardware portfolio presents renowned, reliable, deployment proven technology that offers a comprehensive set of functionality, which can be used to create a wide range of telephony-based applications for enterprises and service providers. Typical applications include IVR, conferencing, diallers, prepaid platforms, self-service voice portals, unified communications, fax broadcast, VoIP gateways and telephony media servers.
