TPEs for Consumer Electronics enhance aesthetics, performance.

Press Release Summary:

Use of Versaflex™ CE standard and custom-formulated thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) differentiates products through sensory attributes — smooth, soft feel with color and texture — while also imparting chemical and UV resistance for component durability. Able to bond to PC/ABS and other substrates during molding without adhesives, these TPEs address challenges such as desirable haptics for high-end phone and tablet cases and vibration-damping properties.

PolyOne Delivers Tailored TPE Solutions for Consumer Electronics at IDSA Conference

CHICAGO — PolyOne GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers, a global leader in high-performance, custom-formulated thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) solutions, today unveiled Versaflex™ CE thermoplastic elastomers. Created for applications in the consumer electronics market, this family of TPEs enables consumer electronics companies to differentiate their devices through design, performance and market-driven aesthetics.

“Our wide range of innovative technologies allow us to provide targeted performance for distinctive electronics applications,” said Charles Page, global marketing director for PolyOne GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers, “and we continue to develop new solutions that address the needs of the fast-moving and rapidly expanding consumer electronics sector.”

The Versaflex™ CE portfolio of standard and custom-formulated TPEs offers consumer electronics designers a combination of performance, visual appeal and physical aspects, including:

Sensory attributes: Designers can combine outstanding aesthetics, such as silky-smooth soft feel, with color and texture.

Durability: Versaflex™ CE provides excellent chemical and UV resistance for durable components along with a lush feel.

This new TPE technology addresses several top challenges of today’s designers, including desirable haptics for high-end phone and tablet cases and excellent vibration-damping properties to improve device performance and comfort in use. The portfolio is ideally suited to applications such as electronic wristbands, “smart” watches and mobile devices.

Versaflex™ CE also supports more sustainable manufacturing because it bonds to PC/ABS and other substrates during molding without adhesives. In addition, these materials can help to lower systems cost by reducing scrap and accelerating throughput of materials during processing.

PolyOne is featuring Versaflex™ CE solutions for the consumer electronics industry this week at IDSA 2013 (Chicago, Illinois, USA) in booth #400.
