Original Press Release:
Drinking Water Compounds from KRAIBURG TPE at the Faucet
A new application for drinking water (DW) series compounds from KRAIBURG TPE: In combination with a metal filter, ensures flawless filtration of water in pipes and guarantees safe contact with drinking water. By using thermoplastic elastomers from the DW series as a key element in the water supply, the supplier, EMME GI PLAST s.n.c. from Miasino, Italy, complies with all important European drinking water standards.
Waldkraiburg, Germany, - In various applications in industrial and household use, faucets or shower heads are protected from contaminants, which can be formed when particles are detached in the pipe and clog the aerator, by means of a special filter. This filter is manufactured by the Italian company EMME GI PLAST s.n.c. and has an O-ring made of TPE of the DW series. It is used directly on the screw joint between the water pipe and the water connection.
“Our filter provides the faucet components with optimal protection from water pipe contaminants. In this sensitive environment, we need a material for the O-ring of our filter that itself stands up to the strictest drinking water regulations. After all, our products are in continual contact with drinking water,” explains EMME GI PLAST.
The Italian company, which is based in Miasino, on Lake Orta in the Piedmont region, supplies the filter to fittings manufacturers throughout Europe and opted for THERMOLAST® K as the material for the O-ring. DW series compounds comply with the most important drinking water certifications, such as the DVGW W270 in natural and color, and the German KTW certification, and the British WRAS for cold and hot water. These thermoplastic elastomers also meet the standards of France’s ACS certification. This ensures that the drinking water will be permanently pure and free of pathogens and taste.
Operationally flexible and compliant with standards
The success of the DW series for drinking water applications lies within its unique formulation. The growth of mold and bacteria is inhibited without the addition of irritating or even poisonous chemicals. DW series compounds are available from 55 Shore A, and they comply with all important drinking water standards even when they are colored. Moreover, thermoplastic elastomers in plumbing installations are especially resilient and thus repel dirt and lime.
Using injection molding or extrusion, items such as pipes or shower door seals can also be manufactured from drinking water-friendly TPE. The range of applications for certified TPE for drinking water is broad and includes plumbing, water treatment plants, desalination plants, and coffee machines and refrigerators.
