January 20, 2012 - Targeting telecom equipment manufacturers, Models ZL30153 and ZL30154 allow transmission of SyncE over Optical Transport Network (OTN) channels without need for additional rate conversion PLLs. Model ZL30154 provides 2 independent digital PLLs for applications that require independent transmit and receive timing paths, while Model ZL30153 uses single digital PLL for clock synchronization. Programmable digital PLLs in both devices synchronize to any clock rate from 1 Hz to 750 MHz.

Microsemi Announces World's First SyncE Timing Devices to Support Telecom, Ethernet and OTN Clock Rates

Product Family Expands Company's Market-leading Communications Timing Product Portfolio

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced the availability of the world's first single-chip, standards-compliant Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) solutions allowing the transmission of SyncE over Optical Transport Network (OTN) channels without the need for additional rate conversion phased locked loops (PLLs). The new ZL30153 and ZL30154 timing devices support Ethernet clock rates and all OTN clock rates. Using Microsemi's single-chip solutions for both SyncE and OTN applications allows telecom equipment manufacturers to support multiple services over a single network and lower timing solutions costs.

"The ZL30153 and ZL30154 are the most flexible and highly integrated SyncE solutions available in the market today, and indicative of the industry-leading products we plan to develop moving forward," said Russ Garcia, Microsemi EVP and general manager of the company's Communications and Medical Products group. "We are committed to making the investments required to further strengthen our leadership position in timing products, and accelerate the development of multiple communications solutions that set the standard for performance and reliability."

The new ZL30153 and ZL30154 SyncE timing devices support flexible input and output rates and are fully compliant to SyncE standards. Microsemi's previous generation SyncE solutions, as well as currently available competitive solutions, only support Telecom and Ethernet clock rates. The programmable digital PLLs in both devices synchronize to any clock rate from one hertz (Hz) to 750 megahertz (MHz). This allows the one pulse per second (PPS) global positioning system (GPS) signal to be used directly as an input reference. In addition, the programmable synthesizers generate any clock rate from one Hz to 750 MHz.

The ZL30154 timing card device provides two independent digital PLLs for applications that require independent transmit and receive timing paths, while the ZL30153 device uses a single digital PLL for clock synchronization. Delivering high performance at a considerably lower cost versus the competition, the new devices require only an inexpensive temperature controlled crystal oscillator (TCXO) to achieve full compliance with ITU-T Recommendation G.8262.
