New switch amplifiers with line fault detection from Pepperl+Fuchs enable users to simultaneously transfer switch and fault signals via a single output

TWINSBURG, OH - Pepperl+Fuchs introduces three new Switch Amplifiers with Line Fault Transparency (LFT). NIC2831 and HIC2832 are one- and two-channel switch amplifiers with LFT suitable for mounting on termination boards. The K-System KFD2-SOT2-EX1.N provides line fault transparency to the control system in a standard DIN rail mounting configuration. These one- and two-channel switch amplifiers with LFT significantly reduce the amount of wiring required in hazardous area applications. They also provide process automation users with comprehensive monitoring of field and control lines, and the ability to transfer switch signals on each individual channel.

"Whether analog or digital, intrinsically safe circuits for signal connection in hazardous areas are state-of-the-art technology. But monitoring the state of connection cables throughout the entire signal circuit is very difficult," says Kristen Barbour, Product Marketing Manager. "Normally, discrete signal circuits from the sensor to the interface level are monitored. Previously it was only possible to transfer individual faults from the interface module to the control system with additional components. An additional fault message output was required for line faults from selective channels, which meant more wiring and additional inputs on the control system. These new switch amplifiers with line fault transparency offer comprehensive transparency without additional wiring."

Using switch amplifiers with LFT, switching and fault signals from the hazardous area are simultaneously transferred to the control level via a single output to maximize signal transmission integrity. Even though it is isolated, the amplifier transfers line breakage and short circuit error signals from the input circuit together with the standard signal using a resistive switching output isolator module.

Integrating switch amplifier with LFT technology requires a digital input with line fault detection in the control system. When existing systems are upgraded, they can benefit from all the advantages of LFT.
