Welch Allyn Introduces Surgical Headlight Camera for Flagship ProXenon Headlight System

Company to Debut ProXenon Headlight Camera at AORN Annual Congress Exhibition March 17-19th in Chicago

Skaneateles Falls, New York, March 18, 2009 - Welch Allyn Lighting Products, a premier manufacturer of high-performance lighting solutions, introduces the ProXenon Surgical Headlight Camera, an accessory to its flagship ProXenon 350 Headlight System. The ProXenon Surgical Headlight Camera provides a video signal to facilitate recording and displaying surgical procedures on video monitors within the surgical suite. Welch Allyn will debut the camera at the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Annual Congress exhibition, booth #1278, from March 17th to 19th in Chicago, Illinois.

"The ProXenon Surgical Headlight Camera is a simple, easy-to-use headlight camera that produces video resolution equal to competitive systems, but at a lower cost to the end user," said David Tufenkjian, senior product manager at Welch Allyn. "It's an ideal solution for surgeons who want a plug-and-play, lightweight camera that will allow them to record or display their procedures while still enjoying the benefits of our comfortable, compact and bright ProXenon 350 illumination system."

Surgeons often record procedures to archive the footage or use it later as presentation material. The ProXenon Surgical Headlight Camera could also improve efficiency in the operating room during minimal-incision, deep-tissue surgeries by allowing other members of the surgical team to view the surgeon's progress throughout the procedure. "Often the surgeon is the only person who can see into the operative site. We believe by keeping the surgical team visually connected with the procedure, our system could have a profound impact on efficiency in the operating room," said Tufenkjian. "By displaying the image produced by the ProXenon headlight camera on video monitors, the entire team can see what the surgeon sees. The circulating nurse, scrub nurse, anesthesiologist, perfusionist and any other support professional can better anticipate the needs of the surgeon and track the progress of the case."

Welch Allyn's ProXenon Surgical Headlight Camera is mounted on the company's ProXenon headlight luminaire and pre-aligned at the factory so it images precisely where the light is focused. For maximum convenience, the camera controller utilizes a magnetic mounting base to facilitate quick and easy set-up and relocation when needed.

The ProXenon Surgical Headlight Camera features power and white balance controls, an LED power-on indicator light, one composite and two S-Video outputs. It is available in both NTSC and PAL video formats. The system comes equipped with a DC power adapter, two S-Video cables and a soft storage case. The PAL version comes with an interchangeable international AC mains adapter kit. The camera system is CE marked and meets all appropriate medical regulatory, safety and quality standards.

The ProXenon 350 Surgical Illuminator and Headlight is a durable, user-friendly system that offers superior comfort, small luminaire size and a spot size adjustable to 120 mm at 16" working distance. The ventilated CoolVent headband allows the headband pads to "breath," providing an exhaust path for the warm moist air typically trapped against a surgeon's head. The angled control surface and digital displays of the ProXenon 350 light source enhance ergonomics and more effectively communicate the status of the light source.

awesome

This sounds awesome. I know that this video option coinciding with a surgical headlight would make my job a lot easier. I love that it is pre-aligned with the light!
Please, send me images!!!
