Surge Suppressors meet IEEE C62.11-2005 Standard.

Press Release Summary:

Comprised of single 40 mm dia distribution-grade metal oxide varistor (MOV) disc in environmentally-sealed aluminum housing, Strikesorb SPD modules protect equipment from lightning strikes, power surges, and spikes. Strikesorb 40-3000 provides maximum continuous operating voltage (MCOV) of 2.55 kV with rated voltage of 3 kV, and has nominal discharge current of 10 kA. Strikesorb 40-4000 and Strikesorb 40-5000 offer MCOV of 3.4 and 4.25 kV, with rated voltage of 4 and 5 kV, respectively.

Raycap Develops Medium Voltage SPD Modules That Meet IEEE C62.11-2005 Standard

New medium voltage surge suppressors based on rugged, fuseless Strikesorb® design...

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. (October 28, 2008) - Raycap Inc., a leader in transient voltage surge suppression technology, has developed medium voltage surge protection devices (SPDs) that provide continuous protection from over-voltage and other transient voltage activity. Designated Strikesorb® 40-3000, Strikesorb 40-4000, and Strikesorb 40-5000, the medium voltage SPD modules meet the IEEE C62.11-2005 Standard.

Designed to protect equipment from lightning strikes, power surges and spikes without performance deterioration, the medium voltage Strikesorb SPD modules are comprised of a single distribution-grade metal oxide varistor (MOV) disc (40mm in diameter) in an environmentally-sealed aluminum housing. Unlike conventional medium voltage SPD designs, Strikesorb medium voltage products can be integrated into equipment without putting it into its own enclosure because they do not fail in a catastrophic manner.

"Containing the distribution grade MOV disc in an environmentally sealed aluminum housing eliminates the issues associated with the catastrophic manner in which conventional medium voltage SPDs fail. Typical problems include emission of ionized particles, soot and smoke, and flying debris," said Jeff Gibbons, Raycap VP Sales and Marketing. "In addition, the module provides superior clamping levels and is designed to withstand repeated surges without performance or physical degradation, reducing maintenance costs and downtime of the protected equipment."

The Strikesorb 40-3000 provides a maximum continuous operating voltage (MCOV) of 2.55kV with a rated voltage of 3kV. It features a nominal discharge current of 10kA and a residual voltage of <10.0kV.

The Strikesorb 40-4000 provides a maximum continuous operating voltage (MCOV) of 3.4kV with a rated voltage of 4kV. It features a nominal discharge current of 10kA and a residual voltage of <13.5kV.

The Strikesorb 40-5000 provides a maximum continuous operating voltage
(MCOV) of 4.25kV with a rated voltage of 5kV. It features a nominal discharge current of 10kA and a residual voltage of <16.5kV.

All three versions have been tested to 70kA (8/20µs) and 100kA (4/10µs) surge current levels.

The Strikesorb medium voltage SPD modules are ideal for a wide range of applications in the petrochemical, oil and gas, cement and mining, steel and metal, pulp and paper, plastics/rubber, wastewater treatment, and chemical industries. They are also easily integrated into common electrical equipment utilized in these industries, such as variable speed drives, distribution panels and other critical equipment.
