GKS Inspection Services Improves Surface Analysis Capability

(PLYMOUTH, MI; December 8, 2006) -- GKS Inspection Services, Inc., a global provider of dimensional measurement and laser scanning services, has improved the capabilities of its Surface Analyzer equipment in its Detroit-metro lab. "Surface finish evaluation is the study of tiny surface irregularities on anything ranging from medical and automotive parts to consumer and aerospace components," said Steve DeRemer, General Manager of the GKS Michigan regional office. "Our customers are able to have the expert technicians at GKS do the surface testing for them without having to purchase the equipment to evaluate the parts themselves. This saves expense and time in training and performing the analysis."

GKS continuously upgrades its Surface Analyzer hardware and software. The latest Mitutoyo Surfpak Series surface roughness analyzing programs measure three dimensional surfaces, and have high operability to easily exchange and manage data. Because GKS uses the most current international parameters and standards (ISO, DIN, etc.) to measure and report surface roughness, customers are able to maintain their own quality systems to industry standards. "Our world-class tools and technicians give clients the competitive edge, along with 'one-stop shopping' in contract measurement services," remarked DeRemer.

Most customers who use GKS Surface Analysis services want to make sure that the roughness of a specific surface is within their parameters. Expert operators perform complicated measurement speedily with the enhanced control functions found in the Surfpak software. In addition the Surfpak software has sophisticated report generation functions that can be used to tailor reports to customer requirements. The assessed profiles, calculation results, measuring conditions, and comments can be easily laid out and printed as reports. Users can cut and paste not only the measurement results, but also image files to create unique reports with photos and company logos.

GKS offers no-cost quotes for surface finish evaluation via telephone or on the website (http://www.gks3d.com). Surface Analysis services can be performed at the GKS facility in Plymouth, MI or onsite at the customer location. Surface finish evaluation is covered as an accredited service under the GKS A2LA accreditation (American Association of Laboratory Accreditation).

GKS Inspection Services, a division of Laser Design Inc., has been a leading provider of dimensional measurement and 3D laser scanning services for 25 years. The company's Plymouth, MI lab (in the Detroit area) is accredited by the A2LA for Mechanical Testing and Calibration. The Michigan lab features numerous CMMs, vision systems, 3D laser scanners, surface analyzers, and other inspection equipment. GKS also has branch offices in Minneapolis, India, and Korea.
