Suction Cups help promote bag handling efficiency.

Press Release Summary:

Made of FDA-compliant silicone material, BL40-5 and BL50-4 have elongated, stable bellow and flexible lip to compensate for hard-to-handle, flexible packages. They mold to bag surfaces, maximizing surface area coverage and minimizing air leakage. With 40 mm dia, BL40-5 handles bags with dense, heavy, and liquid contents. For bags containing delicate items, 50 mm dia BL50-4 features collapsible cup that ensures secure hold without risk of product damage.

PIAB Launches New Tools for Efficient Bag Handling

Taby, Sweden -9 November 2008 - PIAB, a global leader in industrial vacuum technology, has enhanced its portfolio of solutions to help manufacturers and packagers optimize bag-handling applications. Manufacturers require bag handling tools that work for their specific bag sizes, shapes and contents while minimizing changeover and offering a secure hold to prevent dropped products, waste and line stoppages. PIAB's new BL40-5 and BL50-4 suction cups provide efficient bag handling for food and non-food contents ranging from fragile to dense and liquid products.

In bag-handling applications, air leakage between the suction cup and product package reduces grip strength and is a major cause of dropped products, especially in high-speed applications. Dropped products generate waste and interrupt production, which erode efficiency and increase costs

PIAB's BL-4 and BL-5 families of bag handling suction cups reduce air leakage with unique designs to compensate for hard-to-handle, flexible packages. Designed with a long, stable bellow and flexible lip, suction cups in these families mold to bag surfaces and maximize surface area coverage. By minimizing air leakage and reducing product waste, PIAB's suction cups also help manufacturers improve the sustainability of their operations.

PIAB's new BL-5 family of suction cups is ideal to handle bags with dense, heavy and liquid contents due to thick bellows and firm lips. BL-5 suction cups are also applicable for high-speed applications of 125 cycles per minute with one picking point. With a diameter of 40 mm, the BL40-5 is the first of this family to be introduced to the market. BL-5 suction cups of 30 mm and 50 mm diameters will be launched in 2009.

The introduction of the BL50-4 suction cup will complete PIAB's BL-4 product family for handling bags containing delicate items, such as crackers, candy and frozen goods. The collapsible cup ensures a secure hold without damaging the product. With a 50 mm diameter, the BL50-4 suction cup is the largest of the line and works efficiently with larger bags.

"Bag handling poses challenges for many manufacturers, even more so now that companies are seeking faster-moving lines. At PIAB, we understand that different manufacturers have different needs and flexible solutions are essential," said Peter Tell, Chief Technology Officer, PIAB. "We will continue to bring new vacuum technologies to market to help our customers meet evolving challenges."

Suction cups in PIAB's BL-4 and BL-5 product lines are available in three unique sizes (30, 40 and 50 mm) and perform within a temperature range of -60°C to 200°C. Additionally, the suction cups are made of a silicone material complying with FDA standards for direct contact with food items, especially important for top-loading applications.
