Steer Loader offers selectable steering modes.
February 14, 2002 -
A220 All-Wheel Steer Loader features all-wheel steer and skid-steer modes adjusted by flipping 1 switch in operator's cab. All-wheel steer mode minimizes disturbance of ground and other surfaces, and decreases wear on tires. Skid-steer mode allows operation in tight, confined areas. A220 includes 2-speed travel option, low-effort joystick controls, low-speed/high-torque inching mode, foot pedal accelerator, and rated capacity of 2200 lbs.

Bobcat Company Introduces The A220 All-Wheel Steer Loader
Selectable Steering Modes Put It In A Class All Its Own
(West Fargo, N.D. - January 2002) Bobcat Company-the skid-steer pioneer-has once again revolutionized the compact equipment industry with the introduction of its new A220 All-Wheel Steer Loader with skid-steer loader capabilities. The Bobcat® A220 is
the first loader of its kind to offer selectable steering modes.
Bobcat engineers have combined the versatility of a small wheel loader with the tight quarters maneuverability of a skid-steer loader. The A220 offers two different steering modes-"all-wheel steer" (AWS) and "skid-steer"-with the flip of a switch in the
operator's cab. "While there are dozens of skid-steer loaders and compact wheelloaders on the market today, no one else in the industry has a loader with both options in one machine," said Mike Fitzgerald, Bobcat product specialist and a member of the
A220 design team since its inception two years ago.
"The benefits of having two steering modes are many," said Fitzgerald. "All-wheel steer mode minimizes the disturbance of ground and other surfaces and consequently decreases wear on the tires. Skid-steer mode allows operation in tight, confined areas. It all comes down to return on investment. Why buy two machines for a project when you can have one that has the characteristics of both?"
The A220 gives construction contractors, landscapers, nurseries, utilities, agribusinesses and industrial users the best of both worlds: the smooth ride, low tire wear and reduced ground disturbance of a wheel loader and the compact size, tight turning radius and maneuverability of a skid-steer loader. Because it is built with the same mainframe as a Bobcat 863 skid-steer loader and T200 compact track loader, it offers the same multi-attachment capabilities as well.
"What makes this machine unique is its transmission with steerable axle ends," he explains. "In all-wheel steer mode, the inside wheels turn at a sharper angle and at a slower speed than the outside wheels. This allows the A220 to minimize tire wear and reduce ground disturbance."
Other features of the A220 include a two-speed travel option, low-effort joystick controls, a low-speed/high-torque "inching" mode, foot pedal accelerator, and a rated operating capacity of 2200 lbs.
Potential applications for the Bobcat A220 loader include landscaping and nursery, concrete and flatwork, building construction, utility installation, municipalities, industrial and rental.
