Plymouth, MA - Suncor Stainless, Inc. has developed a new line of captive thimbles to add to their already expansive collection of stainless steel hardware. After months of research and development, Suncor has perfected the strength, durability and effectiveness of these new thimbles. They have now added one new thimble style with 5 sizes to the line, giving them over 60 stainless steel thimbles to fit a variety of marine, industrial and everyday applications.
In June 2011, Suncor Stainless Engineers began the research and development process for these new stainless steel captive thimbles. "We brought the prototypes to many fall boat shows and received positive feedback from boat owners looking for stronger and safer thimbles," says David Morgan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Suncor Stainless. "We saw a gap in our thimbles product line which has now been filled with the addition of these new captive thimbles." The stainless steel captive thimbles (or tube thimbles within the industry) were primarily developed for marine and industrial winching and towing applications. The tubular form allows for added safety, ensuring that the wire or synthetic rope stays within the contour of the thimble. It also protects the rope and keeps it from twisting, fraying and chaffing. This thimble design is the strongest for towing and is virtually crush-proof. It prevents the load from coming into direct contact with the wire or fibrous rope. Ideal applications for the captive thimble include fishing or trawling vessels, winch lines and towing.
