Original Press Release:

Carpenter Introduces Project 70®+ PDB(TM) Stainless for Swiss-style Screw Machines

New Stainless Machining Bar Engineered for Performance

Wyomissing, Pa. – Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE: CRS) today announced that it has launched PROJECT 70®+ PDB™ stainless steel, a new family of machining bar designed specifically for use with CNC Swiss-style screw machines. The new offering will be stocked and available for delivery in standard boxed quantities for shipment within the contiguous United States.

The highly engineered bars are precision drawn to ASTM half standard or ISO H9 tolerances and possess characteristics that can help fabricators and machine shops maximize their productivity. PROJECT 70+ PDB stainless attributes include chamfered ends, improved straightness and tighter OD tolerances for consistent size along the entire length of the bar and minimal ‘out of round’ condition.

"This latest offering from Carpenter demonstrates our continued commitment to the machining market," says Carol R. Jackson, Carpenter’s Vice President – Bar, Wire, Strip and Plate Products.  "Customers who ran PROJECT 70+ PDB bar during our trial phase reported greater reliability and productivity through their CNC Swiss-style screw machines, while still enjoying all of the benefits of Carpenter’s premium machining bar."

Carpenter currently offers PROJECT 70+ PDB stainless in round bar product forms packaged directly from the finishing line in customer-friendly boxed quantities to preserve straightness. PROJECT 70+ PDB stainless will initially be sold in seven nominal diameters from:  0.2500" to 0.6250" with 144" standard lengths. The material will be available in four commonly used grades, furnished in condition A, including:

• PROJECT 70+ PDB Type 303 stainless

• PROJECT 70+ PDB Type 304/304L stainless

• PROJECT 70+ PDB Type 316/316L stainless

• PROJECT 70+ PDB Type 416 stainless

To further ensure customer needs are met, Carpenter has partnered with Boston Centerless, a leading supplier of precision ground bar products, to exclusively distribute PROJECT 70+ PDB stainless to customers seeking specific quantities from stock rather than mill-direct quantities. Boston Centerless will also offer AccuRod.0002TM made from PROJECT 70+ alloys in these same nominal diameters at a tolerance of +/- .0002. Dave Smith, Vice President of Sales & Business Development at Boston Centerless says, “We are excited to work with Carpenter to help fulfill a need in the market for a high-quality, precision product in flexible quantities. We are proud to be an integral part of this exciting new product offering.”

Carpenter Technology (booth #262) and Boston Centerless (booth #266) will be co-located and exhibiting at the Precision Machining Technology Show (PMTS) April 16-18, 2013 in Columbus, Ohio.
