SMC Networks Launches a New High-Performance Switch Line Designed to Take Advanced Edge Networks to the Next Level

SMC Networks' TigerStack II(TM) 1000 Stackable Managed Layer 3 Switches (SMC8926EM and SMC8950EM) Support the Increasing Performance and Reliability Demands of Growing Advanced Networks

IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 18 /-- SMC Networks, a leading provider of advanced, high performance networking solutions for the SMB and enterprise markets, today announced the launch of the TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Managed Layer 3 Switches, a new line of high performance stackable switches designed to improve the performance of workgroup network infrastructures with enhanced performance, scalability and availability.

The new TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Managed Layer 3 Switches (SMC8926EM and SMC8950EM) deliver wire-speed Gigabit performance over 24 or 48 10/100/1000 BASE-T ports and feature two 10G module slots to enable XFP 10G connections to the core of a network. Leveraging 50Gbps of High Gigabit stacking, these new switches provide superior connectivity to 200 high speed nodes in any network managed under a single hardware stack. Moreover, with up to four TigerStack II 1000 switches stacked together, the 89-Series switches provide up to 192 Gigabit ports and can deliver a switching capacity of up to 186Gbps making the switch an ideal choice for any data center, performance LAN segments, data-intensive application, or any environment that demands line rate performance.

The robust feature set of the TigerStack II 1000 switches is not only designed to provide best-in-class performance and functionality, but also includes features that protect the users' hardware investment and network operation. Support for both IPv4 and IPv6 management options provide future-proof flexibility and maintainability, and a redundant power option protects the network against primary power failure. A host of user and device security functions such as 802.1x and private VLANs provide security for the network and its assets.

"These new high-performance switches will be of particular interest to businesses that need to take their workgroup network infrastructures to the next level in terms of the performance, versatility and scalability required to support an ever-increasing of advanced network applications," explained Iain Kenney, Director of Product Marketing at SMC Networks. "Our new TigerStack II 1000 switches enable businesses to affordably upgrade their existing infrastructure to a solution that provides the critical combination of future-proofing, performance, reliability, and a robust set of features that will maximize the performance of the network and its applications. The high-scalability of our switching solution will ensure that as the needs of the business grow, from both physical size and performance requirement standpoints, the TigerStack II 1000 switches will support growth well into the future."

"The 89-Series switches represent the start of an SMC evolution in both product solutions and image which leverage our 33-year history as a channel vendor," explained Keith Alexis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at SMC Networks. "These first-in-class units will come in a new color (black) to distinguish them from the more SMB-oriented solutions in the SMC switch line and leverage our chip relationships to create a complete performance package within a new line of solutions designed to provide our larger channel partners with the high-performance, feature-rich solutions to expand their opportunities to compete in their respective markets.

"Moreover, we've added the ability to reduce cable management issues when attempting to link switches over longer distances in datacenters and other such environments by making available a 300 meter stacking cable (SMC8700S-300) with no latency degradation. This greatly improves flexibility for the IT Manager, while reducing management overhead by maintaining single management IP capabilities, all the while lowering wiring cost and confusion." Alexis pointed out that SMC's evolution is designed to solve problems not just provide a product and that there are many more pending releases from the 33 year old vendor designed to do just that.

About the TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Managed Layer 3 Switches
