PEM® Spinning Clinch Bolts Introduce One-Piece Captive Screw with Multiple Benefits

PEM® spinning clinch bolts for thin metal panels introduce one-piece captive screw solutions whose controlled clinching action during installation permanently captivates the screw while allowing it to spin freely in the sheet. This allows for quick attachment of mating hardware with reduced need for loose fasteners (such as screws and retaining clips or washers). These fasteners can serve ideally as less-costly alternatives to multi-component fastener assemblies.

The product line includes patented Type SCB(TM) fasteners with an unthreaded neck for axial float and Type SCBJ(TM) hardware with a jacking feature. Both can permanently captivate into aluminum or steel sheets as thin as .040" / 1.02mm (and greater) and can be specified for close centerline-to-edge applications. Their application potential expands when paired with PEM Type N10 receptacle nuts or PEM Type RAS(TM) R'ANGLE® right-angle fasteners.

The fasteners install by simply pressing them into a properly sized hole. The applied squeezing force to the top of the screw head and the underside of the sheet material forces the shoulder of the screw into the sheet, displaces sheet material, and causes it to fill the void under the head and shoulder of the screw. This permanently captivates the fastener in the panel.

PEM spinning clinch bolts are available in various lengths and thread sizes from #4-40 through #6-32 and M3 through M4.

Detailed specifications (Bulletin SCB) and free part drawings (PEM CAD Library) for these RoHS-compliant fasteners can be accessed at www.pemnet.com
