Datacolor Delivers Portable With More Hardware & More Software Capabilities Than Any Other

Introducing the latest in a series, the Mercury™ 3000

Lawrenceville, NJ – September 17, 2002– Datacolor, a world leader in color technology, announces the third tier in its popular portable spectrophotometer series, Mercury. The Mercury 3000 Color Measurement System offers more hardware and more software capability than any other portable offering on the market today. Together with the Mercury 1000 and 2000, it completes the next generation of color measuring instruments. Mercury combines the precision and accuracy of a bench-top instrument with the easy navigation and touch screen technology of a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). This integration has revolutionized portable spectrophotometer applications - users no longer fumble with function keys and toggle switches to customize output; navigating the Mercury interface is a simple and intuitive process. Naming samples is now fast and easy, and users can select different samples and color evaluation output without changing screens.

According to Datacolor’s Mercury Product Manager Les Schuman, the model 3000 is in keeping with the series’ ease of use while delivering more power and functionality than ever before. “This top of the line portable was developed to complete the Mercury series, combining specific instrument features for outstanding repeatability and accuracy, particularly for difficult samples such as those containing fluorescent materials. The 3000 also offers enhanced software options and expanded storage capacity for increased flexibility across a wide range of applications,” Schuman says.

Highlights of the new Mercury 3000 include:

• UV Calibration in order to correctly measure the whiteness of samples containing fluorescent whitening agents (FWA) such as white textiles, paper, and plastic.

• Calculation of Ganz and CIE Whiteness Indices

• Automatic selection of standards

• Greatly expanded sample storage – over 30,000 samples can be retained

As with all models in the series, the Mercury 3000 works seamlessly with other Datacolor software, including ColorTools™ QC. Available options for the Mercury 3000 include fixed UV excluded capability, holders for samples of irregular shapes and sizes, a fixed bench stand, and extra battery packs.

Datacolor is a worldwide manufacturer of color management and communications systems, software, instruments, and equipment for a variety of applications, including textiles, paint and coatings, plastics, paper, printing and ink.
